Aggressive or Conservative?

Post by Adamo »

Just wondering if most of you guys consider being aggressive is better in SPWAW or is being more defensive minded and conservative the way to go. I realize that different situations call for different tactics but I find that when I 'attack' I usually suffer tremendously whereas when I sit back and allow my enemy to come to me I can cause him to suffer and then I can counter.

Just wondering what some of your thoughts were on general tactics (aggressive vs passive) in SPWAW!

There is aggressive and then there is foolhearty. It sounds like you are leaning towards the later if you don't like your results when you are attacking.

In PBEM, I firmly believe that SPWAW favors the aggressor since the op fire routine just doesn't make good choices for you.

When playing the AI you have a different situation. For instance, last night I played a defend scenario in MCLV. The AI has a terrible time attacking. It was really boring to watch the AI direct its Conscripts right into my bunkers and pill boxes. It is very easy to defend against the AI. It is not easy to defend against me.

I'll second that.[:o]

The game does favor the attacker but to allow your opponent too come to you means that you are inviting him into a trap in which you attack from the trap. This is aggressive but requires patience and tight nerves.

Better players will let you THINK that you are winning all the while planning for your demise. [8|] If you are doing this. You ARE one of the better players.[&o]

Proper preparation is the answer. Use cheap recon to find the enemy, then lay artillery on him, before assaulting. Attacking a suppressed enemy is easier than an unsuppressed one. Firepower and combined arms so that all units strengths are maximized, and weaknesses minimalized.

Circumstances will dictate responce; as will the equipment you have; an what the enemy has.

Keep the intiative, but know not to go to far.

Attackers suffer losses; a price will be paid for success. There are reasonable losses versus catastrophic losses.

Act to disrupt what military theoriticians call your opponents "Center of Gravity. This is where tactics transform into strategy. This could involve reacting to an attack by attacking the flank of the enemy with your own mobile reserve.

Hope this helps!!

Good point. Sometimes you get that sinking feeling that you are just REACTING to your opponent. That is not good. You want to set the pace of the battle.

This guy does that well. The game becomes more than a placement of checkers. #1 Rule- Have a plan. The strategy dictates the tactics. The tactics are flexible. The strategy , once committed, is less flexible.

Deceive, confuse and anger. These are the weapons of strategy.

Do we have you second guessing yet, RB??

If you two (Buzz & V2) are referring to our 4-way battle that Jess set up for us, then you have it correct. My head is on a swivel wondering where you guys are coming from. It's very disconcerting.[:(]

Or, do I have you right where I want you? hmmm

Hey RB I have asked Willy to contact you to see if you would mind taking him as a replacement for Gary. Would that be OK with you. Contact Gary and see if it is ok with him as well. If you don't mind.

Willy is fine with me. I'm sure Gary won't mind. But who has the game files?

(Adamo, sorry we've highjacked this thread.)[:o]

Well, sometimes I feel cheated when I play against the AI, because a lot of times I penetrate with mi tanks and infantry on the upper (or lower) side of map, using woods, rivers, and hillsides to cover and then, suddenly... ¡a complete battery of ATG ready to make piecemeal of my AFVs! And what annoys me is that those guns are of no other use on the battle than stoping my AFVs, because they are isolated from the rest of the AI forces... and even cannot reach any of my other units...
And, in defense, I cannot understand how the AI is always plenty of tanks, and artillery, and planes, and Flak and everything while I must manage my few points to take what I need most for defending myself... alas, It doesn't matter; the AI always attacks me in "Light Brigade fashion"... I mean, suicide.
Everytime I hear the word "culture" I pull out my gun.
