A large number of infantry units in an infantry division that receive all urban combat bonuses, Soviet infantry divisions are much better prepared for urban combat than German ones.

You will also need at least more than one assault, without a numerical superiority of 1 to 3. Or even better, 1 to 4.

But the initial summary does not make any sense, it is only an indicative indicator. The second indicator is important. The fight looks like the one where you don't have enough artillery. More precisely, where superiority over Soviet artillery is not ensured. It is possible to fight with two different armies / corps involving more artillery than 1 army / corps. It would be successful.

Heavy Urban gives x5 terrain multiplier for Infantry Ground Elements.
Heavy Urban is Double-Dense, which gives a additional multiplier of x4 for Infantry and a divisor of /4 for AFVs.
Their Fortification was 1, so there is a additional multiplier of x2.
So a 100CV Division would get to 100x5x4x2=4000CV initially.

On your end:
Your Infantry also gets the Dense bonus of x4, but your tanks also get the /4.
Some your Ground Elements get some small modifier because of the light mud (not sure how much it is, depends on roads and motorization).

In fact, I think it is necessary somewhere at the beginning of a city battle to display in bold red letters right in the game pop-up windows:! ATTENTION, CAUTION!

!This is going to be a tough fight where the defender gets huge bonuses, if you don't provide a 1v4 advantage in this fight you will most likely bleed and the assault will take a huge number of attempts and time!

!Are you sure you want to continue?!

!Yes/No!

Stably every 2-3 weeks a new topic arises about how people break their foreheads on urban / heavy urban hexes.

So, the only way to take out cities is by isolating the HEX?

In your case, if the enemy does not strengthen the grouping in the city, you can take it without isolating it by adding 3 more divisions to the attack.

If this path is not possible for you, then you will probably need at least 1 more assault on the city or two.

You can try to isolate Leningrad by cutting off its ports near Tikhvin if it is possible for you. There is also a naval ban, but if the Soviet player is a living person who is trying to play, he will not let you do it for free.

Shaggy and, of course, Herr Wiedrock or should say Dr. Wiedrock, thank you for your answers.

I did go through all the RTL AARs. It was an interesting exercise. I already had a minor victory on an earlier build. I arrived at Leningrad with perfect timing. It was lightly defended, and I took it. (and a few other minor VLs)

What I learned from the AARs:

* If you take everything, but the two majors, you still get a minor victory. For me, I appreciate the intuition, but it's like not following commander's intent.

* I've been fighting my way up the double track rail line. But I saw someone come up the coast mainly by using the ports. I never considered that. I think I want to have another go, since the double rail line by the time you reach Leningrad is going dry due to supply friction for the force size.

I do have another question. How do I get to Osinovets? I don't seem to be able to cross the ferry? Is it only infantry which can cross? Or do I need to take Leningrad first (a ZOC thing)? Or is it that I don't have sea dominance in the area as I grounded LF 1 so that I could max out supplies going to the ground forces?

Thanks for you help, gentlemen!
