Land based torpedo supply

Post by Chris21wen »

New manual section 7.2.1.10.2.2 says 'The Air HQ or BF expends supply at the base to “purchase” torpedoes that are stored in the Air HQ or BF. ...'

Is this correct? I'v never seen a BF capable of doing that. If it is what are the BF?

Me neither, could it be that BF's can be set to stock torps in the editor?

I remember a post a while back in which it is mentioned that there were BF's that were able to stock Torpedo's. \
That ability was however removed in the interest of game balance. This happened a long time ago. Maybe 10 years ago. The manual is very outdated in some regards.

When exactly the torpedo's were removed from the BF's, I don't know. There shouldn't be any BF's left with that ability.

In the Editor you can add torpedo's to a baseforce and it's TOE (both in the locations section in the Editor). They will then show up in the game in the Baseforce's devices and TOE.
It's not quite the same as in the AIr HQ devices and TOE however. In Air HQ's torpedoes can be added, You can't if you use above method with the editor.
Whether Airplanes will actually use them, I don't know, I never tested that.

I think removed from base forces in 2011.

Always been a mystery to me about the changes made to torpedo ordinance.

Code changes made in 2011.
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9#p2842429
Change 300 and 304.

Sometimes the explanations of the changes are hard for me to understand.
When it says….”Removed Torpedo Ordnance from land unit's TOE/list so that device is not treated as a device;”

Air Headquarters is a land unit…..must mean base forces?... A device is not treated as a device?

I do know that when questions were asked about torpedo ordnance in Tracker 2009:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 2#p2107712
A device is not treated as a device but a link if you read on in the thread.

Also, since the early days of the game it was always common knowledge by players
that a Command Headquarters could provide torpedoes for land bases planes
that can use them….if there was enough supply at the base.

That may still be the case depending on if there is a lot of supply at the base.

Lokasenna provided a requirement in 2014:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6#p3518206

“BFs only supply the torpedoes. If no HQ, then you need to use the higher supply rates.”
When he says BFs…..I assume that means base forces?

I wanted to try and check that out….
I went into the editor….Scenario 6, December 8….version 26a.
At Pearl Harbor I deleted the Air HQ..136 and the Base forces...5047, 5058.

Saved it as another Scenario…..started the scenario...and the patrol planes at Pearl
look like they can use torpedoes for Naval strike missions…...provided by the Command HQ?

I’d like to try and delete the Command Hq. at Pearl as well…….but that screws up the entire scenario.
Strange occurrences indeed!

Thanks Trugrit

Manual needs correcting

Command HQ do provide torp support

Found the bug and posted it here https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 4&t=395830. Basically groups are using torps when they shoudn't.
