What is wrong with the USA ?

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

What is wrong with the USA ?

Post by weinsoldner »

As mentioned in an earlier posting I started my first campaign as Japan and mannaged to stay in office untill 1970.
After reading on the forum that the USawas a good country to pay because it is left alone the first few years so you have ample time to build up your navy... I decide to have a go.
Before I could blink my eye I was in war with Spain and just a few years later in war with Britain, Japan and germany at the same time! Resulting in two forced peace agreements where my battleships were ceeded to the enemy and parts of my fleet scrapped and not allowed to build anything over 10.000 tons. Doesn't look as i am going to win this campaign.

The US does not start as the powerhouse it will become, its main advantage early on is its geographic seperation from all other home areas. You do not yet have a budget to compete with the big boys, but a handful of quality armored cruisers or battleships should be able to carry a war with Spain if handled well. Order your first new big boats from a friendly european nation until you have acceptable dock size built up, grab an alliance if you can, and don't fight anyone until you have a handful of ships you'd bet on over any others in the world in service. Once you do have them, you can engage in petty wars with the likes of Spain with a good chance of victory, but don't fight the UK at all costs until you have a counter to two-dozen battleships showing up to stop the invasion of Jamaica.

You aren't fully in control of tensions in this game, but playing as the US is similar to playing as Japan: You've got nations you can brawl with at the start, and nations you can't.
