Graphics bug in ship designs

Post by jdwh08 »

Hello! I'm running v1.00.08 on Steam with Windows 10.

For all start dates and countries, I see an odd graphical bug when viewing any Ship Designs. The ship will have a vertex coming out from the port side of the bow, resulting in a huge triangle awkwardly sticking out on that side. This occurs for all legacy fleet ships, auto-generated ships, opponent ships, and player generated ships. See screenshots for example.

Things I have tried so far:
- Creating a bunch of new campaigns and ships.
- Reinstalling the game and redistributables.
- Adjusting the ship hull using the "Hull Form Editor". The misplaced vertex occurs between hull form point 0 and 1, so I can't change its location.

An example USA 1890 game save and example screenshots are attached. They all look awfully silly.
Thanks for your help!

That is rather odd - I don't recall ever seeing this issue before. I tested your save game, and the ships are fine in my tests (no 'hooked bow' visible).

Can you post the following PC specs for us:

1) Windows OS version
2) Graphics Card brand/model number
3) Desktop Resolution & Scaling %
Are you using multiple monitors or a 'remote' monitor?
Also, do you also see this same issue on ships displayed on the map during a battle?

Thanks.

Hello William, thank you for the reply! Very interesting -- here are the requested specs:

OS: Windows 10 Education 64-bit 10.0.19045 Build 19045.
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 (driver version 536.23, type DCH, tested updating these)
Resolution and Scaling: 1920 x 1080, 125%.
Monitor: Single monitor, not remote.

I do see the issue for any ships which have been identified during a battle. Unidentified ships have normal looking profiles. Once they are identified as being part of a class, the hook emerges.

Hello @jdwh08

Just to help narrow this down a bit more: Have you played any of our other RTW games series (SAI, RTW, or RTW2) on this same machine? If so, did/do they demonstrate this same issue?

Also, just to eliminate any potential corrupted file issue, please check your Steam file cache for the game to make sure they are ok: Right-click on RTW3 in your Steam library and then select 'Properties--->Installed Files--->Verify Integrity of game Files'.

Thanks.

Hi William!
Sadly no, RTW3 is my first. Regarding the steam file integrity, I'm seeing "All 2837 files successfully validated" when I run it.

We've had several players test this and we have discussed this in some detail, but so far frankly no solid idea as to why this anomaly occurs for you. I do strongly suspect its a machine-specific issue, i.e. some near-unique combination of hardware and/or software that causes this to occur, but unfortunately those are the most difficult type of issues to nail down due to their nature.

Normally I would recommend you update your graphics driver, but you have the latest Nvidia driver it seems, so thats not needed.

If you don't mind, could you run Windows DX Diagnosis? The following article from Microsoft shows how to do this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 92228dfd85

You can zip the output file up and post it here, I can then take a look at it to see if anything is amiss there...

Oh, and thank you very much for your patience with this - we appreciate it and hope we can get your bows back to normal soon... :(
