A couple of questions

Post by MichaelHopcroft »

A couple of questions that have come up in my mind (although I haven't seen the description of the game yet so i could be wildly misinformed):

1. Is this going to be an RTS game or will it be an IGOUGO game? I know the latter are out of favor but I really prefer them -- I find them much more playable.

2. What level of detail shoudl i expect as far as casulaties, command, etc.?

Each side has an orders turn, then the computer executes the orders...

Incredible detail - all the actual ships, land units, air units. Many real pilots and commanders...

Check the game's site on the Matrix Games main page for more info. Also, check the AARs at the top of this forum for some idea of the detail level...

The game is turn based. I issue my orders and save the game. You issue your orders and save the game. The turn is processed with the AI figuring out how my turns and your turns interact with each other. A replay file is generated so each side can review the results. Several types of reports are generated for reference and then you start all over again.

The level of detail is nothing shot of amazing.

So, have I sold you yet, or scared you away? Some people don't like too much detail.

I'll buy, I'll buy!!!!!!! Please ship me one now! [;)]

I've got to stop reading the AARs here - it's killing me to wait for this game.

It's too bad that you folks can't release a new version of UV for us poor souls who can't be alpha/beta testers. It's really hard to play UV any more, knowing that so many nice things will be there in WitP.

Thanks for all the teasers anyway. (drool, sigh, drool, sigh)

The addition of industrial information (The engine type for the planes, for example) makes the game even more interesting. I own UV for 2 weeks now, and must say, wow. The whole war in the pacific will probalbly be even better (though i hope we don't get to Version 2.30 this time [;)] ) .
How does the 1941 Scenario start? Is there the possibility for a historical turn (like in PACWAR?). The japanese taskforces were already underway by Dec. 7,1941. How does this work out in the game?

keep up the good work

Well, as a tester, I can assure you that UV has not lost its lustre. Simply because of the familiarity, as well as the more limited scope/number of options means that I can call myself a UV veteran. Years from now, we'll still all be WITP newbies.

Especially since UV could almost be played as a two sided board game (up and down, up is IJ down is US etc.) but WITP has so many different directions and fronts it is sometimes really confusing to realise that there is no such thing as a front line usually - and there certainly is great opportunity to send your transports to a backwater base and then realise they're going to sail through the middle of enemy territory etc.

Is very difficult for me to think in so many directions. Every new turn I change my mind for all my tfs, and my designated "push" directions (in spite of the fact that I sit down and scribble out a plan and a basic timeline before I start).

What are the split numbers next to supplies and fuel? I'm guessing that's the max amount allowed to be stored at that base before the new "spoilage" starts eating away at some of the excess supplies.

When you see a split like that, it means the base is a source of supply. The /numbers is what is added daily. It is used to handle non-production scenarios, and Allies in production scenarios.

Spoilage is a whole 'nother discussion [X(]

Thank you. So, in non-production scenarios they now add a certain amount each turn instead of just resetting the base to a fixed amount like in UV? I would consider that a nice improvement.

It can not be stressed enough just how dramatic the supply/fuel chain changes the game play.

It's like playing scenario 17 in UV but not using Truk at all, and limiting yourself to a small TF worth of supply and fuel as a once a week treat (randomly throw a dice to determine *IF* it arrives or was sunk on the way).

Try it, you'll start seeing just how much it screws with your planning [:'(]

You have several options.

1. Historical First Turn
2. Special Surprise Rules

Historical First turn on with special surprise rules on.
The Ai plays the first turn and the results are very close to Dec 7th.

Historical First turn off with special surprise rule on.
Both sides gets to move and the Japs get a powerful first punch. Most testers use the option and the Allied player agrees to house rules not to move any units. Gives you a way to let the Jap player do some thing different.

Then you can figure out the other combos.
