Improving artillery with Gas/gauss/rocket technology

Post by Starfry »

Artillery is in a one note position, bring the biggest gun then trash them when the enemy equips combat armor due to logistics cost. While you can improve them with conventional arms, its a race for a few turns and a gamble against a few more medium tanks. Also, the technologies gas powered, gauss, charged gauss and rocket are of limited use even in slow gameplay since by this time you're pushing against APCs with polymer armor guarding the tanks then you're skipping them for lasers. Since there are artillery with gas powered shells (Base Bleeding) and rocket propelled shells for range, the technologies should benefit in-game artillery.

Gas Charged as a blanket upgrade should up the attacks per round since base bleeding improves accuracy with smaller diameter calibers getting more attacks per round. The reason for this is smaller rounds are faster to reload and more rounds in an area is more effective than a large blast.
Rocket may benefit larger calibers with increased fire power as with rocket launchers, rocket powered artillery can follow up with a barrage.

Gauss and charged gauss will benefit mechanized artillery/assault guns. By utilizing a gauss system and have a slug push the shell out at a set power will significantly land more rounds on target with better accuracy. A gauss system will also remove the need for propellent and have the weapon system carry more rounds to compensate the increased attacks per round.
