US Guam troops now causes isolationist morale hit?

Post by ThunderLizard11 »

Looks like new patch doesn't allow US to garrison Guam? Does this also apply to Midway and Wake? Not sure why this was changed as it gives Axis free morale hit and US morale already flagging with recent changes.

It applies to both Wake and Guam, but not Midway:

- The placing of US units on Guam while the US is neutral will now swing the US 2-5% towards the Axis per turn (OldCrowBalthazor).
- The placing of US units on Wake while the US is neutral will now swing the US 2-5% towards the Axis per turn (OldCrowBalthazor).

It's interesting that I got credits for the above listed changes.
Gaming WithTheColonel and I posted a house rule that a Neutral USA couldn't place a Corp/Army or other land units on Guam or Wake, as doing so made it almost impossible for the Japanese to take these two islands.

Also, in the previous version, Wake and Guam were a kind of loophole where there were no 'Isolationist' repercussions for placing troops on those two islands, but there were if limits were exceeded for Hawaii for example.

I think this change is good for balance reasons, but I don't remember really advocating for a change concerning Guam or Wake.
Still, thanks for the credit. Culling house-rules is always a bonus.

Yes, this is a legit change.
Japan has so much pressure these days.
China turns into the Great Fortress Wall, as majority of players just run early, since approaching cities causes trigger.
The opposite, is China just suicide smacking early.
Really depends whether, Japan gets good weather.

Yes, whether the weather is rainy on those turn 2 through 5.

The multiple additional Partisan spawning hexes are also a major challenge for Japan in the new version.

Garrisons should be allowed. I don't agree with this drastic change as it gives to much of a morale hit for US. Yes no armies is fine.

Now this conversation is going some where.

Agree, need "many more garrisons".
This would stop "stealing of cities" by Long Range AA-guns and suicide partial garbage Corps. .
I'd like to see more "damage" taken" on Island fighting.
Maybe Iwo Jima + Okinawa + Pepaleuil need Fortress on the City or give them more supply.
Give Japanese HQ-supply 3 or something on the Islands? Or just some garrisons to absorb hits?
How about reducing the range of Maritime Bombers?
How about reducing the power of Maritime Bombers, and make them more of Scouts?

I still believe the Americans wouldn't care about Chinese territory before Pearl Harbor.
The diplo hit approaching Cities, got me spinning all the time, in China.

I couldn't disagree more.

It's the Chinese-Japanese war and the occupation of Indochina that prompted the US in the war. Japan has only two choices after the oil embargo imposed by the US in retaliation on 08/01/41 : submit to US demands or declare war

May I remind you that's Germany who declared war on the US the 12/11/41 and not the other way around ?

@Paul806 --- You mean well, but your source is books, written by schmucks. I'm talking about Americans, not D.C. Politicians.

Picture this: Small farm, 1939, boondocks Pennsylvania, Jerktown USA. With only two broken down horses to plow, 6 kids to feed & more on the way. Weeds overgrown, bugs, heat, pumping well water by hand. My Uncles come home from school, find my Grandpa walking from the Brick Factory making 40 cents/day. "Hey Pops, you won't believe what the enlightened masterful teacher had to say about the world. Captain Godzilla of the Rising Sun Samurai Division just lobbed the heads-off General Tso's Chicken's in the Eastern Province of Bamboo Barracks. There's also some Island with Oil they want to steal."

Grandpa, "That's wonderful, let me get my .22 squirrel gun, always wanted to be broke & starving. Lets dig a hole thru the Earth to help them fellas. Can't they just refill their tractor at the Feed & Seed in Harrisburg?"

Uncles, "Teacher also said, there's a Corporal who's really mad all the time. Drinking beer and giving free brown shirts & pretzels to anyone to willing to be a bully".

Grandpa, "Nah, not interested in another trip to Europe, get my head blown-off. Paid less than the Brick Factory, and I won't be able to weed the garden, harvest corn & tend to the chickens, milking, and pigs. I'll miss your Mom. Don't you boys go and enlist."

It's all about Pearl Harbor.

Hey, Hey Paulie, you up for a game? Welcome to pick of sides.
