How to mod command HQs

Post by Chris21wen »

Some are straight forward some are not. Don't want to know about he first it's the second ones I'm struggling with.

The 4th and 5th Fleets are command HQ as well as fleet HQ. Looking at the editor their HQ tyoe is 21, a fleet HQ range 1, same as other Fleet HQ that are not command HQ.

The Combine fleet HQ type is 29, feet HQ range 9 and it isn't a command HQ.

There must be something else going on here but what?

Possibly because how they were used in the war. I think that the Combined Fleet was much more of a support HQ than a line HQ.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Have you checked the Editor manual, page 36?

Yes.

I found where I was going wrong for the 5th Fleet, there are two 5th Fleet entries, a command version for the start and another as a reinforcement after the original gets renamed. I was looking at the wrong entry.

The 4th Fleet is different, there arn't two entries for me too make that mistake. In game it is a Command HQ with range of 1. In the editor it's type is 21 which should be just a naval HQ with a range of 1. The Souheast Area fleet is the same, Command HQ range of 5, but should only be a naval HQ according to the editor type 25. The lisi of ground units doen't show either as a command HQ, treating them as naval. So why?

Yes I can edit the types to 101 or 105 respectively but that does not change anything, they are already Command HQ.

I've found that is you copy the 4th fleet and paste it back as a new unit that new unit is no longer a command HQ, just naval.

There is somethin gelse going on that we can't see.

Right answer to wrong question. The question was about the 4th fleet being a command HQ.

But wasn't the 4th fleet a line HQ that had units in combat, prepared for combat, and deployed for combat? Maybe that is why since the IJN had responsibilities for the land defenses on the islands and atolls.

Still not quite got the problem. It not to do with anything historical or even that it is a command HQ in game. It;s how it's been made a command HQ,

According to the editor mmanual you make a unit a command HQ by changing it's HQ type to 100 + command range. The 4th should therefore have 101 as an HQ type. It doesn't, it has 21 which indicates a naval HQ. Same for the Southeast Area in should say 105, it doesn't, it say 25. Again naval. All other HQ are correct. There has to be something else that we can't see.

Apparently anything which is a "top level" HQ (i.e. it can't be assigned to another HQ) is automatically a Command HQ. You would think that Combined Fleet might be a Command HQ, but since it is assigned to Southern Army, it isn't.

Anyway yes, 4th Fleet, 5th Fleet, and SE Area Fleet are all top level HQs.

I thought I'd tried that as it was so obvious but it didn't work. Just tried again and it does. Thanks.
