A first time for everything.

Post by JeffroK »

I dont know how many games or how many thousands of turns I have played and I got surprised by the AI.

In July 1942 I was woken from my mindless trawl through the slow years for the Allies by a combat message, the Japanese had landed at Carnarvon, Western Australia !!!!!!! (This is Scen 1)

One of my house rules is to keep reasonable garrisons throughout the war so I had 10 LH Rgt there as well as the base force and 13 Bde in Geraldton so the IJA isnt going anywhere and there is a lot of Armour entraining for West Australia.

Its good to have these surprises, makes up for me still holding Sumatra and only losing Singapore & Batavia in April 42

Interesting! I usually have all my attention on PM and Darwin in 1942, not NW Oz. Something to keep in mind for my next go-round.

Hope you take some Jap POWs, the POWs escape, they get hold of some Oz wild camels and we can finally read an AAR about Akira of Nullarbor.

I've played campaign games beyond count and was surprised a few years ago when the AI surprised me the same way, by conducting a Jap amphib assault on Carnarvon (it may have been a base further south in w. Austr., but you get the gist). The AI took the base - all that was there was the base force - but was crushed in relatively short order. Ever since then I've had to garrison w. Austr. (apologies to our cousins Down Under but I can never remember Australian state names!), and based upon a War Room "is this gamey" post, I've garrisoned Portland OR and other US west coast bases, JUST IN CASE!

One thing to do is to remove all of the AI scripts except one, switch it to a different script for the next try.

I've done a few Ironman games and a landing in NW Oz seems to occur more often than not. There are a few other surprises which I won't go into.

Oh, let me guess. You met a gorgeous person at Raffles bar in Singapore and she turned out to be a Ladyboy? I wouldn't go into that either.
