Update made game unplayable

Post by dave123 »

Game purchased through steam. The game updated to 1.08. Since then, my PBEM gives this error:

File CRC32 mismatch \v1.07.00\1861 Blue and Gray.dat

Please tell me that I haven't lost 2 really good games in progress!

Also, when I try the single player new campaign, at the end of the first turn, the game hangs while checking supply and will not continue.

I tried the steam "verify game files" and it did not help.

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear about the trouble, if you can send over your Challenge ID I might be able to take a quick look, but unfortunately I'm just about to leave on a break, and there is a chance these games might not be salvageable :(

The only thing I can think of trying here is to take a copy of the 1861 Blue and Gray DAT file from your installation folder here:

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Strategic Command American Civil War\Pbem\DAT\v1.07.00

And then copying it here into this folder to see if it might help:

\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\My Games\Strategic Command - American Civil War\PBEM++\DAT\v1.07.00

Wow, I sure appreciate the offer. I remember years ago you saved a PBEM game for me. Tech support here is the best!

Won't be necessary, though. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the PBEM is working now.

Thanx again.

Game no longer launches. I go to the menu where I hit play (the one with the options to see guide and launch editor). From there, clicking play flashes a black screen and goes back to steam with the green play button. Verify files says that 1 file failed to verify, of course no way to tell which one. Multiple uninstall (including manually chasing all the files) and the problem persists.
I'm guessing I'm the only one? My other games work perfect, and this was perfect before the patch. I'm guessing steam will not refund a game with 200 hours ;).

I haven't done any other computer things that I might consider, such as change antivirus (I use the built in MS one) or update any drivers.

By the way, I have the older SC Global, and it works.

I'm I just out of luck?

It is certainly strange, and the best thing to do is to contact Matrix Games support as hopefully they'll be able to help identify the issue and help get it solved:

I also have this problem:

"Also, when I try the single player new campaign, at the end of the first turn, the game hangs while checking supply and will not continue."

Best bet is to contact Matrix Game support:

But my guess is this is your Anti Virus not allowing the game to save in the USER folder, as some Anti Virus software can now be set to protect this folder from changes, and could be worth whitelisting the game EXE to see if that helps.
