(1) AAR Template Rev 8 attached. I've added a lot of automated functionality including report generation in this version. The EXCEL based AAR template (i.e., workbook) contains 35 sheets. The way this template is now it's very easy to step all over automated functionality. I haven't worried about that until now because I've been the only one using this version and even if I step on something, which I do occasionally, I know how to fix it. I've decide I'm going to start a separate thread for my AAR template, document each of these sheets, automated functionality and reports. I've been wanting to do this for a while (i.e., upload and document my AAR template for the community) and now seems as good a time as any. (2) Here's are my powerpoint slides, converted to JPEG, of my "Historical" and "House Rules" from the 2018 timeframe that includes the Soviet setup (I believe) to which you're referring. In my current iteration I've deviated from that but I definitely had fun with that version. The provided slides include RN & French navy setups derived from Warspite provided notes. (3) In my current, and latest counterfactual iteration, I've adopted a philosophy of "playing" a wargame bounded by (M)WIF, my historical house rules and driven by the major power war directives. Basically, I "try" to write historical or counterfactual war directives at at Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) level for each major power (MP) and then play the MP to achieve, or try to achieve, those war directives bounded by (M)WIF and my house rules. I also use war directives as action items for the MPs. Before each impulse, I review, modify and/or close war as appropriate the active MPs war directives.Falken wrote: Thu Jul 27, 2023 6:18 pm Hi rkr1958
Wanted to ask you two things, if possible. I'm about to start a new historical MWiF game, and I'm currently on your AARV6 template version. If it's not an issue, or even if you even want to, would it be possible to get your latest version before I start. I think it's V8. If not possible, no worries, i'll start with V6 (really luv your templates)….
2nd question, in regards to Russia, I'm going to use your initial Russia Unit Setup format based on your previous AAR "An Attempt to use MWiF to Simulated WW2 Reasonably Historically" as you mention in very good detail, on why units need to be of a certain type and strength near the Poland border (as per historical).
I've been following this Counterfactual AAR quite closely as well, and only wondered if your initial "Russia" setup placements, in this AAR, were based on History (i.e. before counterfactual comes into play), or is it more based on this specific AAR need.
Since the 2 setups are quite different, just wanted your thoughts on that, before I start.
Note.. I'm also using the TF/Ship placements based on Warspite's historical document you listed in the AAR "Potential House Rules for More Historical Play" for a good historical TF Unit placement start.
Thanks again, and again, as I've said many times before, thanks for your AARs. So beneficial.
(4) Good luck and have fun! Also, ever thought about doing an AAR?
