"Longer wars" option needed

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

"Longer wars" option needed

Post by NimrodSam »

The developers are right right that in WWs I and II BB engagements were extremely rare. Cruiser and CV engagements were not common either, and even ones with DDs on both sides were far less than 1/month.

They are also right that the game is more enjoyable if more than that are generated.

But in my experience most wars are still too short for full enjoyment. My 2 most recent wars before the one that generated the bug reported yesterday lasted exactly 3 months each with a combined total of 4 ships sunk (in one neither side had DDs and in the only one side had a few, so that may have depressed the total. Most wars I have fought in RTW 2 and RTW 3 have lasted no more than 6 months.

It would be nice to have "longer wars" among the preference options. IDK whether that would be as simple as, say, halving VP awards and blockade unrest. If so it's hard to see why not.

I just started playing, so I'm a definite noob, but aren't you eventually given options to end or prolong a war? Something like "Russia wants to end the carnage and will give you three territory points," and you can respond with "heck no, we want to gain more territory, keep fighting" or "yes, we've had enough, we'll take Sakhalin for our troubles and call it a day."

Cheers,

There are during war events in which you are asked by your government whether a peace should be accepted, negotiated or fought. The government does not always follows your recommendation. Detailed bargaining is not in the game.

I got the impression that wars are now longer than in RTW 1 and 2. But I am in my first game with RTW3
