RAM usage

Post by Kotopup »

Noticing as i hit very late game RAM usage goes through the roof. I've got 32GB DDR5 and it's maxing out my ram. Seems to be okay for awhile after i save game and reload.
Might be a memory leak someplace?

Would deduce that you are running the game with a Microsoft product and that the game is programed in a Microsoft language.

As the game program utilizes more of the language, i.e. multi threading, there will usually follow increased memory leaks. Their language code and OS are not written tightly as well as often taking on a bit of spaghetti code structure; let alone other problems inherent, “baked in”, to the OS code which presents difficulty with designing code for MS operating systems. Even if the software being developed is tight and properly coded then there will still be increased leaks and bugs as that is built into the underlying structure and/or language that the software is using.

Then as one goes in to fix problems in the software or to add features or functions it can be quiet laborious to avoid increasing the memory leaks in the software. In the practical world some are bound to occur and difficult/expensive to find and fix. As the software continues to evolve it becomes ever more difficult/expensive to avoid increased memory leaks.

As this game evolves one should expect increased memory leaks and the need to reboot more often in order to clear memory. Hopefully, they will continue to evolve the software whilst taking reasonable steps to fight the memory leaks.

I experienced this same issue. 1.1.6.0 beta seemed to help quite a lot, as well as not playing on 4X speed (1x or 2x mainly).

We've made some improvements in this area in 1.1.6.1 and the saves provided by Sethar and Huntanor helped us figure out what was going on. We'll keep making improvements here.

We also updated the in game recommended system memory tooltips for each galaxy size.

After the Hyperspeed update, a lot more started happening in the galaxy but this did lead to increased memory usage, which could cause other problems on systems without an abundance of system memory. We're sure we can bring that back under control, but some of the changes are risky enough that they'll have to wait for the next round of updates.

I'd like to see this game take advantage of my 128GB of RAM. I understand not everyone carries this amount, but it would be nice if the game (and others) did.
