Age of Sail

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Age of Sail

Besides Ultimate Admiral, is there any other game based in this period and similar (if it is) to RtW?

Any plans in the future for RtW: Age of Sail?

My favorite time period per naval combat & I am sure it would do well per sales.
Wondering if this game can be modded to reflect that time period.
Wooden Ships & Iron Men...yes. :)

Very good advice, and I hope to see the development of RtW3: Age of Sail in the near future. :D

Sir's

This is my favorite naval time period also but I believe this question was asked in the NWS chatroom years ago and the games creator said NO the Game would not work for that time period.
Maybe someone from Matrix will clarify this question for I have read here in the forums somewhere that the new game designer William Miller/Matrix are looking into upgrading/new game engine that will allow more features and a lot of improvements.

Thank You for your time

I'm not going to say 'no' but:

Age of Sail would require a lot of work to develop 'movement rules' for the ships under sail. You have much less freedom of movement, being entirely reliant on wind direction.

It would also be a little tricky for the player - an intercept course could be a nightmare as cutting the corner may reduce your speed by 1-2knots, thereby allowing your opponent to escape more easily.

Finally, you'd have the issue of low speeds - maybe 12 knots for your fastest ships, making things even more drawn out.

Also would need ramming and boarding to be added as viable tactics.
