Airstrikes blocking battle's end

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Airstrikes blocking battle's end

Post by EwaldvonKleist »

If there are aircraft active, you can't end the game. Although this does make sense if a genuine aircraft attack has to be resolved, it often needlessly blocks the end of the battle for no other reason because there still is a lone recon zeppelin in the air.

Could this active aircraft lock perhaps be removed for all aircraft activity except targeted bomber strikes?

Do you have a save that shows this issue?

I saw this as a general issue directly resulting from current game rules so don't have a save prepared. Will do so when I encounter the situation again, but you will find this to happen in most battles after airships/aircraft start appearing.

I used a random save to create an example.

Minute 823/800. Can't end battle because there are enemy aircraft in the air. From my experience with several dozens of such battles,
1) Enemy aircraft will not find me or interact in another way with my ships for several hundreds of minutes.
2) Even if they do, they are super unlikely to cause any damage.

So why can I not force the battle to end? When time is over and ships don't see each other anymore/are sufficiently apart, I can end the battle without problems. But if there is one airship active anywhere on the map, I can't. This does not make sense.

And if you have one of those 1400min extended battles, letting unfinishable battles run out does take some time. I have started watching Netflix while playing RtW3 battles so I can skip over the boring phases when nothing can happen anymore, but the battle can't be closed either.

Here is another example. 1400minute invasion battle. The opposing Russian fleet has been sunk, we are at minute 1561/1400, and the aircraft that don't even interact interact with my fleet (see my logs, only one aircraft approach message the entire time), but I can't end the battle.

A mistake happened with the save I wanted to attack, but I have word from Fredrik that he has changed the rules so the matter is closed now :-) Thanks for looking into this.

Best regards
