How is offensive power calculated?

Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive is the fourth wargame in the Decisive Campaign series. Covering the battles in the Ardennes between December 1944 and January 1945, it brings to life Operational wargaming by lowering the scale to just above tactical level.

How is offensive power calculated?

Post by jordanpg »

Even in the most trivial case, it does not seem to be (# of units) * (attack power).

For example, in this case, I have not moved or attacked with any units yet. I am only looking at ranged Panzergrenadier attack on an American armor unit. Only 3 GrWs can participate.

I would expect the unmodified offensive power to be 3 (3 guns) * 12 (hard attack) = 36. But instead it's only 24:

There should be no range reduction for this gun according to the Ranged Weapons table.

How is this "rough estimate of the offensive value of the forces" calculated? This seems like the most important number on the screen to me.

Thanks, Devimi. I did read that thread.

Unfortunately, it is about the offensive power modifiers, not the offensive power itself. In other words, I am asking about the number to the right of the circled number (107%), which is 325 in that example.

Actually, I think the modifiers are one of the best-documented aspects of the game, although it is a little odd mathematically that they are all simply multiplied together (including both offensive power and "hitpoint" modifiers).

In any case, I take warnevada's point that the exact numbers are not critical, but surely being able to at least estimate unmodified offensive power and unmodified "hitpoints" should be possible?
