Question regarding the RV engagement

Post by AceOfSpadeszzzzzz »

Hello, I know we have a chance of destruction calculation for non-HTK warheads vs RVs and it's based on real-life scenarios. My questions are
1. Why is this happening? Because RVs are fast? Or it's because RVs are tough?
2. If it's because of the speed, should we also add this check for other fast missiles like HCM? Should we remove this calculation if the speed of the RVs is below a certain level?

Thanks in advance.

From my amateur's perspective, its generally the speed and angle of engagement. I haven't played around with ABM engagements in several builds, but certain SAMs can engage RVs if they slow enough and the engagement range isn't too close.

I have typically found that RVs don't usually slow enough to allow engagement for most SAMs.

I see, thanks for the answer! So looks like it's because RVs are fast and are sort of non-aerodynamic targets. Then I have some other questions: For RVs with sensors, when destructions doesn't happen, should we take the potential damage to the sensors into consideration? Should the chance of destruction increase if an RV is not fast enough? Thanks.

The real question is "how far down the rabbit hole of engineering simulation do we really want to go".

Given the myriad other things on our plate right now, the answer is "not very far for now".

I'm sure there is a piece of software out there that models BMD down to the last rivet, and bravo to it.
