Topup problems (again)

Post by 100thMonkey »

Platform: Steam
Build version: v1.1.6.5
Severity: Medium
Annoyance factor: High
Confusion for new players: Very High
Saved game:
The Culture - Ackdarian - 2855-04-07.7z
(4.94 MiB) Downloaded 7 times

I previously reported problems with the topup button (see https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6&t=396994). The problem seemed to have disappear after an update, but it’s now back in full force:
  • the topup button is inactive even if 1st Fleet has 38 ships instead of the 28 specified in its template (“Attack Fleet” template);
  • if I add destroyers to the template (8 of them), then the topup button becomes active;
  • if I then click on the now active topup button, it does add the destroyers, but it doesn’t trim the excess ships in the fleet, even though the “Trim Excess Ships” button is enabled in the template.
The save I’m sending you is just before I did any of the changes mentioned above. So you can use it to do the same exact steps I did and reproduce the problems (topup not active initially even though the fleets has too many ships, and then the topup button not trimming the fleet).

The save is from v1.1.6.5 (Discovery). But later, I updated to 1.1.6.6 Beta and reloaded the save, and the same things happened (ie: v1.1.6.6 Beta didn’t fix the problem, at least not with my current game).

I didn’t include screenshot of 1st Fleet’s selection panel or of the Attack Fleet template before the changes, because you can see both in the save. But here are screenshots of the template after the changes I did to it, and of 1st Fleet’s selection panel after I used the topup button.

The modified template:

The toped-up 1st Fleet:

Note that:
  • The fleet now (after the topup) has 44 ships, instead of the 36 it’s supposed to have, even though the trim button is enabled in the template.
  • I also deactivated the “Ship Role Up/Downgrade” button when I added the destroyers to the template. But I doubt it has any effect on the situation.
  • If 1st Fleet is selected when the template is modified, for the topup button to become active, it is necessary to “do something” to refresh the selection panel (navigate in its history, or simply clicking on one of the button to navigate in its history if there isn’t any history, i.e.: after loading the game). Which in itself is a tiny bug: the button should update if the template is modified.
- Imagine how confusing it is to a new player!
- Tedious is the opposite of fun
