The battle for Leningrad begins

It's now T25 round 1 and Willie has forced his way closer to the port and will soon own it. I've railed a lot of troops up here and none of them are helping hold back the Axis units very much. Willie is doing a lot better than I was expecting. This game has been going his way since the beginning.

It's still T25 round 1 and this is what it looks like around Moscow right now. Willie is chopping his way through my MLR and my arty is getting tired and not working as good as it once did. I'm pounding away but not getting any hits anywhere. His shock advantage ( 140 compared to mine 100 ) is not helping me very much. A lot of my aircraft are in reorg. Most of them are yellow and not ready for prime time. That's okay, I'm a stable genius and I can figure out what to do. Sometime soon now.

The Russians are in trouble here

It's now T26 round 1 and this is what it looks like just south of Moscow right now. Willie is making his way through my defenders slowly and will soon penetrate my MLR and defeat my valient defenders. Willie is doing a lot better than I expected. I'm learning a lot just from watching him handle his units. Good game so far.

It's still T26 round 1 and this is what it looks like at Leningrad right now. Willie has managed to advance adjacent to the city and will soon own it. My defenders are worn out and are too weak to prevent the Axis forces from gaining several hexes each turn. I'm able to hold back the Finns but not the German units. I may have to fall back up north and gather my dudes closer to the city. With the fall of Leningrad the Finns won't have to stop at the stop line(s) and I'll have a rougher fight on my hands. It's not looking good.

It's still T26 round 1 and this is me holding back the Finns just north of Leningrad. Most of the Finn attacking is happening further north of this image and they are advancing, pushing my valient defenders backward several hexes at a time. But it's costing Willie some significant losses. I get sometimes get enemy airstrikes when I move my units so I'm sure Willie has a lot of INT missions running. About half of all my aircraft are in reorg.

It's still T26 round 1 and this is the area just north of Dnepropetrovsk just NE of the Crimea peninsula. Willie has forced his way across the river and has surrounded my defenders and they will soon be gone. This is the story all over the map. Willie has me outnumbered in the early turns of this conflict and it shows. My efforts to hold him back are largely in vain.

It's still T26 round 1 and this is the area around Staraya Russa right now. So far I've been able to hold the Axis forces back but Willie is able to marshal his forces in such a way to push his way across the river and get into my backfield in other places so that's what I expect him to do here as well. I see he has some RR engineers in his front lines and I'm wondering what he plans to do with those. Surely he won't attack with them.

It's still T26 round 1 and this is the area around Chelyabinsk right now. This is up against the eastmost edge of the map and represents the kind of traffic I'm getting where the units spawn and I need to move them around to avoid 9-unit stacks where nothing can spawn. So I'm always moving units around to make way for even more units next turn. Almost everything spawns at the east map edge and there are other places like this one where there's a lot of traffic each turn. Some of the units spawn all three pieces that make up a division and I can put those back together and move them as one unit. Others are just a piece of a division at a time. And all the aircraft units spawn at the east map edge and I like to move them to an airfield further to the west to make room for more units to spawn. I've been getting a boat-load of reinforcements every turn for the last several turns. Almost 50 units spawn each turn. They are almost all cherry red however, and are in dire need of rest and refit.

THE BATTLE FOR LENINGRAD

It's now T27 round 1 and Willie managed to capture Leningrad and this releases the Finn Army to descend past the stop line(s) and help the Germans to wipe out the Leningrad defenders. I expect them to all be gone within several turns from now. The loss of Leningrad is a major loss to the Soviet side.

It's still T27 round 1 and this is what it looks like near Moscow right now. Willie has made several breakthroughs and I need to plug the holes pretty quick. As soon as I plug the holes Willie will just make some more in some other place. This is an ongoing battle and losses are heavy and doesn't bode well for the Soviet side.

Larry has an MLR line here which he has stubbornly defended to halt my advance.

It has worked though but time is running out to save those divisions as the Germans have created a pocket.
