What to do with AP?

Post by clonedino »

I usually play the 41 GC from the German perspective, against AI mostly, and by turn 5/6 I always have about 40 AP built up and won't use any for the remainder of 41. Is there some point to it? 10 per turn seems ridiculously high. I am on turn 10 right now and I replaced all the "worst" commanders and now have no more commanders to replace with better ones and still have 60 points.

Keep on checking your leaders as the AI dismisses and promotes some and better ones keep on appearing.

Build forts and repair damaged railways etc.

I'm at turn 70 and have over 350 though....

I wish I could use them to: Sell excess equipment to the Allies; set the arrival hex in Russia with an admin or delay penalty.

I use them to change out all sub par leaders, build a a strong logistics network with lots of depots and manually assign construction units to fix railyard damage. Also to disband unwanted units to add manpower and equipment to my pool.

I usually don't to start to build up a surplus until sometime in 42. I feel the balance is pretty good.

During the summer you can always spend excess APs on using level bombers for air supply. They don't deliver a huge amount but they reach much farther than your regular transport planes.

As winter draws near you can also spend some 72 APs on 18 fortified zones in preparation for the blizzard. (Even more if you disband them once they reach fort level 3.) Something worth saving for, IMO.

Lastly you can use APs to detach flak units from cities and use them in other places such as map or TBs. It's expensive (10 APs per flak regiment, for instance) but if you send them to TBs you can bring out fighters, so you're basically buying extra fighters with APs.

When does this AP expenditure occur? I use bombers for air supply all the time and there is no cost.

It does cost AP to use bombers for air transport instead of transports. The AP is deducted when the mission is flown. If you have no AP you will not be able to choose bombers from the list of aircraft to assign to air transport missions.
At least that's been my experience.

Fascinating.

It is in the manual and it does deduct a point if you use bombers for transport on T1.

But in my current game where I have over 400 points on about T83 it isnt doing it. Perhaps some obscure bug that kicks in when Admin Points reaches a value of 'nnn'

Do you have a save you can upload or email to 2by3@2by3games.com so we can replicate this. If an MP (server) game, please let me know the player names of the two players. Thanks.
