Disappearing Troops: bug or undocumented feature?

Post by 100thMonkey »

Platform: Steam
Build version: v1.1.6.7

I have seen troops disappear from one of my colony. Not carried somewhere else, not killed. Disappeared. In peace time, without any rebellion or event at the colony. Without any explanation or warning.

Is that supposed to happen (in which case the way it’s implemented / undocumented is, let’s say, very far from ideal)? Or is it a bug?

One way or the other, I’ll post a follow-up once I know which one it is (bug or undocumented “feature”). But I don’t want to prepare a detailed bug report if it’s a “feature”.

Hey thanks for the report! This does seem like a bug, probably a rare one as we've had only a few reports on it.

Do you have a save and screenshots that happen to show the before and after situation?

Yes I do have a save, and it should allow you to reproduce the problem at will (instructions below).

Here it is:
Autosave1.7z
(3.64 MiB) Downloaded 6 times

Just an hypothesis based on my tests and observations: the problem might be linked to troops automation on a colony combined with a low amount of credits.

To reproduce the problem:

* Select the Linthales 1 colony. It has 5 infantry, all Ackdarians, 3 being garrisoned.
* As soon as there are enough credits (at around 2793.02.16), build a planetary administration center at the capital (Equinoy).
* Re-select Linthales, and let things run while keeping an eye on its troops...
* At around 2793.03.06, one infantry disappears
* At around 2793.03.27, another one disappears (now 3 left, all garrisoned).
* A bit before 2793.05.01, again another one that disappears.
* At around 2793.05.18, another one disappears (only one left).

Yesterday I wondered about the same issue. thought the troops have retired due to lack of money...
