Today is the 1st day of school here... I saw a little Ukrainian boy dressed up in miniature version of his country's national football team jersey/shorts/socks going to my local school just around the corner... he was with his mother... I hope his father is OK (possibly on battlefield somewhere long away from here - although we sometimes do see younger men here as well)...
I have been helping a Ukrainian family get settled here in Canada. The father is with them. I speculate that he was allowed to come with his family because they have three children, one of them was only 3 years old. Both the mother and the father have had to get low-paying jobs to make a go of it, so I buy them a few things they need now and then. They never ask, and sometimes object, but they never outright refuse the things I buy so it is helping a bit. Last week I bought them some school supplies. The little girl was thrilled with the multi-coloured pens! She loves to draw.

I told someone that if I had my father's homestead (and was still single) that I would have seen about sponsoring some Ukrainian refugee or a mother with young children, I showed her a picture in a news article and said someone like her. Yes, a pretty blonde 19 year old woman . . .

She said that yes, that I would like to sponsor her! I meant some who could speak English. That young lady was also going to university, teaching English to elementary children, and there is a 2 year college the next town over with higher level extension courses. Walk a block down the alley and there is a playground in front of an elementary school, one that I had gone to. So it would be nice that way for the children and I could have brought them to a couple of churches for assistance, Orthodox or Roman Catholic since the Greek (Ruthenian) Catholic church closed.

If my wife and I had the time and resources we would consider sponsorship. It's a good thing to do....GP

Yes, remember the importance of school!
Also remember the trinkets that have been acquired on your travels.
