Entering port

Post by thedoctorking »

So when I enter the zone around a port I get a message "do you want X to enter port?" If you say no and keep cruising around the port, can you later change your mind? If so, how?

You can, you need to move a little further away from the port, then sail directly at it.

Get the distance right and the pop-up will return.

Thanks! It would be handy to have an option whenever you are within the area of effect of a port, rather than having to sail back out to sea (where the enemy might be waiting for you).

Also, I would think that all ports would have some sort of coast defense, if only field artillery from the local ground forces (maybe 6 inch -2 to account for their inexperience at shooting at stuff that was wet).

To be fair, if all the coastal artillery locations were in place from the start of the game, players would need at least 50% more budget and rarely build anything. Britain had several fortified islets in the Channel, and I suspect France was similar.

I think that when you buy a coast defense battery in the game it actually represents a number of installations at each port in the area so whenever there is a fight there are batteries there. Most countries had extensive coast defense artillery installations all along their coast, even in places there really wasn't going to be any fighting. Honestly, I think this should be a baseline thing; every port should have batteries associated with it, maybe they get bigger as time goes on or as the port has more base capacity but they shouldn't come out of the player's budget or be under their control. In the US military, anyway, coast defense artillery was part of the Army.
