Cancelling a move order

I can't figure out how to cancel a move order. I order a ship to move from one sea area to another using the "ships in service" tab and right-clicking on the ship, then selecting 'move ship". Then, I change my mind and want them to stay where they are. I open up 'move ships" again, and there is a tab at the bottom to cancel ordered moves, but when I select the ships and hit that tab, nothing happens. Nothing to be seen in the manual about this either. Are they just sailing away as soon as I give the order and out of communication until they get to their new destination? I was able to order them to go to a different area, just not back to the area they came from (until the next turn).

Edit: never mind, figured it out. You have to first move the ships that were ordered to move back to the left-hand pane, then scroll down, select them _again_ and go "cancel move order." This is totally not intuitive and isn't mentioned in the manual anywhere I could see. You really ought to fix this. Simply selecting the ships in the move panel and going cancel, or for that matter giving the option of moving them to the destination they are already in, should be enough.

It is a bit odd, but you need to highlight the ships for which you want to cancel the move before clicking the cancel button.

Note that there is something of a bug with this as - if memory serves - the ship still shows that is is scheduled to make the move but am pretty confident it doesn't.
