Can I change the flagship of my force during battle?

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Can I change the flagship of my force during battle?

Post by thedoctorking »

My flagship is sinking. I would like to shift command to my destroyers, who are off a ways getting ready to sink an enemy cruiser, but instead they persist in going to AI control and trying to run back across the map to get next to my poor flagship, which incidentally has an enemy battlecruiser sitting next to it pounding the dickens out of it. Is there any way to get around this?

There is the OOB screen on the left top in the battle GUI interface. Right click and go through the menus, there are several interesting options there. One is to change flag division.
I am not aware of the option to change the flagship.

I recommend playing the game in captain's mode. You can self-limit yourself regarding what you control manually, but if the AI goes off the rails in a a completely unplausible way, you can intervene manually. And you can manually stop ships from high speed flooding themselves to death.

That might be the issue, thanks. I was playing in Rear Admiral's mode.

You can change the flagship in Rear Admiral mode if it gets sunk but you can also just take command of another squadron and make the necessary changes in the command structure.

How does high speed flooding work? I generally have ships slow down when they have flooding, but I don't know what the best practice is. And I have ships sink unexpectedly nonetheless.

My understanding is that the risk of high speed flooding is proportional to your speed, and you must be travelling at 11 knots or more for there to be a risk.

It depends on damage control. Having damage control training helps a lot.

If there is active flooding, high speed can increase the flooding. Not sure what are the maximum speeds to avoid this, I try to stay below 11kn too and if possible I chose 4kn, especially for severe flooding
