Nukes?

Post by thedoctorking »

First game here, just wondering, are nuclear power for propulsion or nuclear weapons a possibility in-game? By 1963, most major naval powers deployed nuclear weapons at sea and had nuclear powered ships, but in my current game, no sign of that for anybody or even mentions "your scientists are having trouble figuring out the secrets of nuclear propulsion".

I could see using nuclear weapons would be maybe a big hit to your prestige rating, especially against land targets.

Nuclear weapons are out as too powerful.

Nuclear propulsion is out due to a lack of available conflicts involving nuclear propulsion in order to be able to properly simulate battle damage.

My older cousin was a senior chief in the navy, a nuclear technician, and worked on ADM Rickover's staff. One time he had the dubious pleasure of correcting the notoriously irascible boss on a very deep technical point. Thought he should start planning for retirement and instead the boss put a congratulatory letter in his file and got him a promotion to E-9. This would have been about 1963, by the time I met him, he was already retired.
