Militia / Partisans

Post by Admiral Delabroglio »

Hello again

The IA played the Spanish civil war card, and an army with 3 regular Spanish infantry and 4 Spanish partisans (all with British flags) moved from Catalonia to Provence.

French or Irish militia units can't leave their country. Shouldn't it also apply to Spanish partisans ?

* Edit * : After careful thoughts, the units that moved into Provence from Catalonia might very well have been militia units, and not partisans. Since the picture is the same, I could not tell the difference, and I had not noticed yet that you can right-click on the unit and have an information window telling you whether it is a militia or partisan. Likewise, for the French allies, the same picture is used for Italian or other Minor Allies, and the same picture for Italian (I think) and Polish artillery.

Best regards

Partisans of any kind may not move. This is in error, and an interesting one. I've never seen this, naturally. I'll correct this for the next update release.

Hello

This time, I have some saves, obtained from a game using massive click-and-save so that the situation is next to impossible to obtain in a completely honest game, but the weird effects are there all the same.

1- I obliterated the British Navy
2- I tricked the British garrison in Gibraltar into attacking in Ireland in a March/April turn (I left a single strong unit there), using and abusing the fact that the naval transport capacity is calculated at the beginning of the turn, so after the British got annual reinforcements including ships, but before I seized / eliminated them.
3- No more annoying British picket in Gibraltar
4- I chased the Spanish partisans around, leaving a regular army so that the battles would be major ones, in which the partisans do not get the ambush bonus (0 -> 6 ) during the first combat turn

Now, with saves

5- I beat the British controlled, Spanish infantry / militia / partisan army in Asturias (save Test1) but did not pursue with cavalry in order to let the regular amy and militia escape to Western Spain (Test2) as Navarre, Madrid and Portugal had French units
6- I played a "forced march" card to move my Paris army to Picardy, then by sea to Western Spain (Test3). Interesting fact : the British controlled army (One regular, 6 militia) is NOT 8 strong BUT the combat window was the major battle one, as the Spanish partisans MIGHT reinforce. I don't know whether they did, or not, most of the time they do, but maybe not always, so that there was a chance both armies would be 8 or more strong. I let the IA deal with that combat (Test4, before the fight).
* Edit * replayed it, if the IA army was 6 strong + 2 partisans that DID reinforce, I got a minor battle screen. Maybe the major battle occurs if the armies are at least 7 strong, or 7 + leader, not 8 units (with or without a leader).
7- The tattered remains of the British controlled army limped to Gibraltar, including militia units that should not leave Spain (Test5)

I can't attach the saves, I'll try to send them by private e-mail...

So : several debatable issues there. Size of the fight (unclear), militia leaving Spain (illegal), too big army in Gibraltar (absurd). Repeating the moves starting from save 3, I got the whole 7 units of the British controlled army escape to Gibraltar. Assuming a unit to be, say, 10,000 soldiers for milita and low quality infantry, that's a 70,000 army lurking in Gibraltar. Those guys should starve in a couple days !

Best regards
