G strike to invasion landing zone doesn't enage the 4 inch guns.

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

This is pretty annoying as the 4 inch guns are already really annoying since they are hidden at night even against the most advanced warships and you cannot hit them with aircraft they are impossible to destroy during night time.

Even during daytime they are tough to take out. I had a whole BB line of battle sitting off the planned invasion zone shooting at them and it took more than an hour before we finally took them down. I think an hour of 16-inch love coming ashore would make any 105mm field gun crews take to their heels! Those things need to be toned down in terms of their invisibility and immunity to fire.

Also, in that scenario, the transports got shot up enough that we never achieved the "get 4 TR to the target area" and nevertheless our invasion happened (because we beat the dickens out of the defending fleet, I guess). So you can "win" the invasion scenario on points without actually achieving the mission and still get your invasion. Maybe WAD?

That absolutely is WAD, and is mentioned in the manual to boot.

To succeed in an invasion, you need a minor victory or better.

This compensates for a number of issues:

*Starting too far from the zone for transports to land

*Transports turning back due to the presence of enemy ships and losing too much time to land

Though this does allow for some dastardly tactics. I once started a night invasion battle in torpedo range of the enemy fleet some time around 1930. Cue mass torpedo spam and my fleet rapidly fleeing on the grounds I'd scored multiple hits on BBs whilst suffering none myself. Sure enough, come the end of the battle, I'd scored a major victory.

The reason I'm complaining about this is that I usually start a battle like this by destroying the closest enemy airbases with aircraft. So it's odd I cannot destroy a few field fortifications. They don't seem to register for missiles or bombs.
