Multiple column formation for battleships

Multiple column formation for battleships

Post by thedoctorking »

Is there any way to stop my ships from doing this and use a single line ahead formation instead? Other than driving each squadron individually using rear admiral/captain mode?

Set core, line ahead and ai control. The lead formations have to be set correctly to follow each other.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. But instead of following each other in line ahead, they are driving along side by side. The AI formations move to take up position alongside the lead formation. There was some discovery a while back of a more efficient formation and now I'm stuck with it, like it or not. I see the AI trying to use this and his ships end up in a giant cluster when they try to maneuver. I prefer the plain old line ahead because it allows me to focus my fire and nobody is getting in anybody else's way. I'd like to have the option of declining the technical advance.

No there isn't, and I feel your pain. In fact you are stumbling 1:1 over the same issues I did when starting the game 3 months ago, which makes likely that more people do as well.

The fleet cruise formation "innovation" is sold as an improvement but is actually a step back. The AI already struggles with keeping the line ahead combat formation with several divs, and the fleet cruise formation makes this even more difficult. I too would appreciate a way to deactivate this. I guess you can do this by editing the tech to appear in 1970 only.

It's interesting that you say this.

I've been reading this forum for a few minutes every day the past couple months as I have been very interested in this game.

But reading your issues and thedoctorking's issues (and others) has kept me from pulling the trigger.

I just don't have the time or the energy to be a tester for a game that seems to be in early beta.

No game is ever perfect, but this one looks like it will require a lot more development and quite a few patches to get to a point where I would want to invest the time it would demand.

Hey, I am writing about the remaining quirks so much because I really like the game, and want the last details to be as great as the rest. It is one of the best game purchases I have made so far.

While all the things mentioned in the discussions here are annoying and I hope they are fixed as soon as possible, the game is not some Beta with game breaking bugs, but a functional and enjoyable game.

I'm with you EVK! I really like this game. It's addictive and there are ways to overcome most of the flaws during game play that don't break the immersion too much. When the AI starts doing crazy stuff, if you are on captain mode, you can step in and order them to do more sensible things (hard to resist taking that "aggressive" destroyer captain out of a suicidal charge, though). If your battle divisions won't follow each other, with the battle editor in the public beta, you can edit the divisions so all your BBs are in one division.

I'm not intimating that it's unplayable, just that there are still a looooot of things to fix.

I will buy it down the road when I can enjoy my limited game time with it much more than I would now.

You're right, the game is still basically in beta, like many early releases of new games. On the other hand, it costs like half what a normal Matrix game costs ;)

Understandable. This being said, it is already addictive as is. I don't want to know how addictive it will be if AI role bugs are fixed, there is an improved battle UI with more shortcuts and an ironed out battle generator :-)

Good point on the price.

The addictiveness is exactly why I need it to be in a better state.
I have no doubt I will sucked right in and I want to maximize the enjoyment.

It has been a while since I have played a similarly addictive game, and exactly for this reason I have never been as angry at a game quirky for a long time :D
