Why can't I invade the Russian Far East?

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Why can't I invade the Russian Far East?

Post by thedoctorking »

You would think that with increasing amphibious technology, you would be able to invade territories that were forbidden at first. After all, America and Britain invaded France and Italy in 1943-44. And the Americans were getting ready to invade the Japanese main islands in 1945 had the Japanese not surrendered. Certainly Japan had plans for invading the Russian Far East in case of war with the USSR in the 1930s. And if the invasions of the Aleutians had been successful in 1942, Japan might well have been convinced to push on and try to take all of Alaska.

In my current game, I'm at war (again) with the Russians because I control all of the Pacific Coast territories that I can hold - Sakhalin and Kamchatka. There isn't any invasion I can conduct; this is an entirely defensive struggle on my part. I can't even invade Iceland or the Kola peninsula without some allies in Europe.

The simple reason is out of scope of the game and not enough dev resources to develop a proper model for invading anything else than naval bases.
(the econ contribution of colonies is negligible ingame).

I see your point - a lot more different types of ships and different considerations for the invasion of someplace like Normandy. Still, in the game you can do the Inchon landing - my opponents the Russians tried it in a game I'm playing right now. That was a pretty complex operation, and in-game it is simulated by a big convoy of merchant ships.
