Exchanging jobs?

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Exchanging jobs?

Post by thedoctorking »

Is there any way to make two of your commanders exchange jobs without paying a prestige to fire one of them? I have a situation where I have a guy with "good administrator" in charge of a single BB and another guy with "brilliant" in charge of a squadron of DDs. It's the same level job, so theoretically they could each hold the other job without my having to promote anyone, and It seems like it would be better to have the good administrator in the squadron leader position and the genius in command of the flagship of our fleet.

Command of a single large vessel is usually considered more prestigious than command of multiple small vessels.

This goes back to the days of sail, when there was a clear demarcation in vessels that were considered 'Post' (20 main guns or more) and had a number of privileges associated, which improved with each larger vessel.

So how would I go about putting those guys into the opposite jobs (since the Brilliant guy is presumably the better officer and thus deserves the bigger job).

I would note that in WW2 era fleets, DD or sub flotilla command was still a prestigious seaborne command job and could get you your stars. Chester Nimitz commanded a sub flotilla and then Subs Atlantic before getting his first star (although he also commanded a couple of cruisers in there). And when he read his orders as Commander, Pacific Fleet, he did it on the deck of a submarine (perhaps because he didn't have any battleships at that point...)
