Drones carried by US F/A-18F

Post by rvseydlitz »

Greetings.
Version 1.06 had a lot of additions I am still experimenting with.
One I am trying to add into a new scenario is the drone carried by the latest db models of the USN F/A-18F.
I've added it into a couple of tests, and gotten it to fire/launch BOL just as a MALD...but for the life of me I can't figure out what it does.. the MALD is a jamming weapon, but these new drones do not seem to be jammers, not recon (no sensor shown) nor weapons platforms...so I'm wondering what they are used for besides dead weight to cut the parent's A2A maneuverability and fuel economy?

Do you mean the Perdix UAS? Unless a recent DB update has broken them, the last I checked is that they had an optical sensor (can't remember exactly which one).

Edit - found the CMANO-DB.COM entry:

Interesting thank you.
I will look at that when I go home and test more. I had pulled up the database entry looking for and expecting some type of sensor and was surprised not to.

The Perdix drones are incredibly interesting to me.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a scenario where using them is at all practical, and I have a tough time brainstorming such a scenario where they would be within the scope of CMO.

How about dropping them off during a stand-in strike to perform BDA?

Yes Ive used since I posted this, for BDA as well as to "peek under cloud cover" for weapons I otherwise cannot fire because the targets are too imprecise.
