[FIXED] S-400s Peter'ing well below range

Post by BDukes »

Hi All

Load attached saved scenario.

S-400 has a WRA of 70nm for Growler B, which is below 50% of its range. The missiles seem to peter out consistently with a target below 70nm or they get dusted by their targets. This doesn't seem correct.

Thanks

Mike

Hi

Reviewing the scenario I also see that the s-400 cannot shoot at the target that is almost head-on at around 55 nm which does not seem correct, the allocation window indicates that the target is outside the DLZ.

For comparison, if you place a Patriot next to it, it can shoot without problem at almost its maximum range. If you shoot the Patriot at that range the target turns around and can go but the behavior is correct.

The s400 missiles run out of energy at about 40nm.

The problem I see is that the S400 does not go above 36k while the Patriot goes above 50k in height giving it more range.

Regards

Yes.

Just to knock off a troubleshooting step the db viewer does show the ceiling is considerably higher so the issue isn't likely the db.

Missiles were not lofting high enough as range decreased and drag was making them peter out. This will be fixed in the next release (probably 1328.11.)

Just curious is this the same cause of this issue reported by thewood1 ?

I remember last year when the missile kinematics was implemented a similar lofting issue caused AIM-120D to have shorter effective range than Sparrow.

Seems fixed in 1328.11.

Thank you!

I think it is, and is by extension something similar that I noticed way back in April (see: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 0&t=394534) with the 1307 version of the game. I just revisited my little test scenario with the new update and it's a fantastic improvement. Modern SM-2s (and other lofting boost-coast weapons) are actually potent against mid-range targets again. I'm seeing 800-1000 knot increases in the missile's terminal engagement speed in that scenario, with the consequent increases in the PK percentage.

My thanks to the devs who kept working at this, especially with how difficult it's been to provide hard, consistent data to you.
