Weirdness with autosaves

Post by bradfordkay »

This week for the first time ever, my game started placing "Autosave" for each game date in the save slots following all the ones I have been using (I keep one months worth of saves, starting all over on the first of each month).

The show up as (for example) 12/23/43(Autosave)Scen29 on the save screen but when I look in the SAVE folder in the game database there are no saves listed beyond the slots that I have been using.

Has anyone else ever seen this? Will it cause issues down the road?

I've been getting a lot of random slot autosaves in addition to my chosen slot save. Hasn't caused an issue so far.

If you're playing against the AI then all is normal. During your session the game will auto save your turns but there will be no permanent saves. The only permanent saves are the ones that you do manually....GP

What threw me off is that the game has never shown them on the save menu before (and I've been playing this game since the initial release), though it only shows them when I choose "save", not when I choose "load". What I don't like is that it is cluttering up my save menu, making it more difficult to find the particular save slot I want to use.

And now it has stopped. It doesn't display a "saving" message nor the saves. Weird that it was doing that at all.

There are 3 saves that the computer handles automatically - the Pre-Turn save (when you tell the computer to run the turn), the Post-Turn save and the Autosave. The Autosave happens periodically if you have the feature turned on. The three are saved to reserved slots 000, 001 and 002 (don't know in which order). It sounds like you have turned off your Autosave option.
Most players that want to use this put the switch in their Shortcut Properties switch string - I don't so I forget the code. This will ensure it is on every time - otherwise you have to remember to turn it on every time.

The three computer controlled saves will overwrite previous data because they save only in their reserved spots. If you wanted to save them you would have to load that saved game and re-save it in one of the other slots above 002.

Personally I just save at predetermined points as I make my rounds of the map checking bases and TFs etc. I indicate in the save name the game date and at what base I am saving the data so that if the power goes out or I have to stop and do other things I know where I left off.

And if your issue is with the new 1127 Beta that appears to have a lot of bugs yet, my condolences!

-Autosave
I do believe that the last autosave is in slot #2 according to my save folder.
