PS: Disable the music mod to hear the background sounds.

Version 1.4:

-A couple of new mov infantry ogg files.
-Added background desert sounds.
-Infantry movement volume fixed (85%).
-Background sounds integrated.
-Six new machine gun sounds

Version 1.5

-Added 2 hours of background battle sounds.

-Another couple of hours of background battle sounds added.

-General files volume 90%
-Troops movement: volume 85%
-Background sounds and music: volume 80%

I got a bit of time for a small update: Added six historical automatic weapons sounds: Bren, FAL, Uzi, Beltfed, AK47 and RPD.

I´ve noticed the game tend to play backg0/1/2/3. Apparently it forgets backg4+.

Is it intended or a bug?

With a randomized playing system (backg0 to 7) we could get more sound variety.

What does the sound.dat say about the number of various background sound files, again? Line 4, iirc.

Hmm. What I thought was my "official" install folder for 2.01, the Sounds.dat parameter file there is something completely different. What you posted however matches what is my latest development folder, so maybe my official install's gone fubar. Happens often. Way too many installs everywhere...

So, looking at 2 2 8 2, that would mean support for

* 2 abackg.ogg files for Side A specific music
* 2 xbackg.ogg files for Side B specific music
* 8 backg.og files for "Background Sound" menu option, ie. ambient combat sounds (can be anything in a mod, of course)
* 2 nback.ogg files for "Background Music" menu option, ie. neutral music (can be anything in a mod, of course)

So what you are saying Background Sound option plays only four of your backg[N].ogg files you've provided for? There's eight in your mod, there's eight in the official install, so this should not be so. This is the first I am being noted this would not work, I mean I take your word, but this is a bit difficult to test.

I believe this should be random, per your request, this should indeed play out randomly among the eight files there.

As another observation, I am seeing more Side B files (six) and more Background Music files (17) than what the basic Sounds.dat file allows for. Do add a new Sounds.dat to your mod install, to have them all play out.

It happens the same with other John Tiller series (ie napoleonic battles): The game usually plays the first background sounds. In my mod the existing sounds.dat is not modified, furthermore it´s the only mod I have enabled.

In the meantime I play the background sounds from outside (Foobar2000). Would be cool a fix but It´s not a big issue anyway.
