Bootcamp Scenario 2 Firebase ?

Bootcamp Scenario 2 Firebase ?
I am in Bootcamp scenario 2 with my engineer and construction units in the hex. I know in the description it said build a firebase. I can't find the button for that? Or, am I misreading what to do?
I also can't remember how to do long movement instructions?
Thanks

Re: Bootcamp Scenario 2 Firebase ?
A firebase consists of three trenches (based on the requirements for that scenario).I am in Bootcamp scenario 2 with my engineer and construction units in the hex. I know in the description it said build a firebase. I can't find the button for that? Or, am I misreading what to do?
So the process is to create three improved positions with your infantry and engineers and then upgrade those positions to trenches with the Construction Engineer (by digging in in the same location as the improved position).
I presume you mean double timing your units so they move faster?I also can't remember how to do long movement instructions?
If so, select the unit and press the double time button (to the right of the fire/move button).
Hope that helps!

Re: Bootcamp Scenario 2 Firebase ?
Hi Jason, Thanks for the response, I guess I have to improve the position that my engineer and construction unit is in? I look under the engineer tab and/or common tab and I'll have to check if a button exists for improving the hex location.
With this scenario, the reinforce units are on the Eastern part of map. I was wondering if you can give them automatic movement orders to end up near the firebase which is very far away
Thanks for helping

You're most welcome!Hi Jason, Thanks for the response, I guess I have to improve the position that my engineer and construction unit is in? I look under the engineer tab and/or common tab and I'll have to check if a button exists for improving the hex location.
There are three hexes that will ultimately constitute what the firebase is. They are the red coloured dirt hexes. You'll want to develop Improved positions in all three of those hexes (by using the Dig In button, look for a shovel). As the first improved position is done, you'll want to use the Construction Engineer on that hex and dig in again - this will take some time, but it will eventually improve the hex to a trench. Do that for all three hexes. Once complete, your firebase will be complete.
Alas, no, that's no possible. I can script the computer player to do that, but alas, your units are up to you to move. With this scenario, the reinforce units are on the Eastern part of map. I was wondering if you can give them automatic movement orders to end up near the firebase which is very far away
My pleasure, I'm always happy to help! Thanks for helping

Re: Bootcamp Scenario 2 Firebase ?
Ah yes, the firebase is the result of digging the trenches.
It varies from scenario to scenario. For example, in the A WEEK IN BINH LONG scenario a firebase is only two trenches.

Hi Jason, I am about to finish the bootcamp scenario 2 and it looks like all the flags are for the enemy!
I had the artillery box on the screen and it was the color green in the small box. I was wondering if that was due to the artillery piece being in the jungle? I was never able to get any rounds off.
Good game and the bootcamp scenarios are a good idea.

Ah yes, you definitely needed to get the artillery to the firebase, that is essential in the scenario.demyansk wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2023 5:05 pm Hi Jason, I am about to finish the bootcamp scenario 2 and it looks like all the flags are for the enemy!

Artillery is generally not capable of firing from a jungle hex.
The bootcamps are essential, definitely, but the regular scenarios have more freedom. The bootcamps are designed to teach you all the new nuances.

Thanks Jason for the answers, by the way, what zoom level do you like to play at? I have been playing with the round bases but it’s difficult to find the green soldiers in the jungles. I might try the square counters in next game. Is there a color outline that is available on the units to see more easily?
Thanks
Thanks

I usually play with a mix of 3D and 2D. Most of the combat is done in 3D, the remaining planning and longer distance movement in 2D.Thanks Jason for the answers, by the way, what zoom level do you like to play at? I usually use Yellow for the highlight colour. That stands out quite well.
BUT, even better. There is a terrain mod that will help you find your units in the 3D mode. It's absolutely fantastic from Umbra.
You can watch the first part of this video and you can see how to implement it and the ones you can use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I85FLlnmZts
The Blue Water mod is no longer required, as that is now default.

Hi Jason,
Even though I am somewhat familiar with your game from the Middle East version, I just watched your tutorial on tube. Probably one of my issues has to deal with a large monitor at the high resolutions. I played last night the fourth boot camp scenario, the only problem I had was the transport trucks were never released. I would bet that I didn’t secure the base as well as I should have when I crossed the river, can’t remember the name, these Vietnamese names are hard to remember. Anyway, I continued down the road with my civil affair units and civilians.
Thanks for the tip on how you play the game, I just need to get that yellow on the USA units, difficult to see but that’s jungle warfare for you.
I have to try the Middle East game again
I just started the video and that mod is very helpful. By the way, do you ever watch the wargame podcast on Saturday afternoon with idjester at 4 pm eastern time? You would be a good guest to have on.
Very Nice Update: I installed the tabletop mod and it looks to be the right one, thanks now much easier to see.

The key is to make sure the civilians are all located in the hex across the river at the assembly location. If they are all there and you wait a turn or two, they will release the trucks.Even though I am somewhat familiar with your game from the Middle East version, I just watched your tutorial on tube. Something to consider is that the bootcamp was created before the water movements will improved, so, one could actually use the vessels to transport troops down the river. But shhhh, I know nothing!
Hopefully with the mod enabled this is no longer an issue. Thanks for the tip on how you play the game, I just need to get that yellow on the USA units, difficult to see but that’s jungle warfare for you.
Absolutely! Keep in mind, the scenarios aren't scripted yet, so you'd be playing against the legacy AI, which isn't as smart. Just fair warning. Playing a human is the best way!I have to try the Middle East game again
I have not watched him, that's good to hear. Do you have a link to his channel?I just started the video and that mod is very helpful. By the way, do you ever watch the wargame podcast on Saturday afternoon with idjester at 4 pm eastern time? You would be a good guest to have on.
I'm glad the mod is working for you! I really appreciate the effort that Umbra went to to create the mod.Very Nice Update: I installed the tabletop mod and it looks to be the right one, thanks now much easier to see.
Hope you're enjoying the game!

Hi Jason, the show is live at 4pm and is hosted at most times by Idjester and then the podcast is placed on Rough Swordsman’s channel and at times Tony’s channel. The three are usually on and they have guest designers, developers on in the two hour podcast. They have a live chat and many designers are in the chat like Hermann Luttmann, Greg Smith at times, Mike Bertucelli and a few more that I missed. I think you might be a good guest in the future to talk about your games. Check it out and they have a good audience. Plus, jester plays more games than anyone. Most of the material is the board variety but they do cover the history of that subject as well as pc games. Sometimes, conversations are all over the place and the audience is also in Europe.
