Re: TRP - Total Realism Project for War in Europe (1.4.2 Download)
I strongly urge that Tac Bombers with Ground Attack Lvl 2 be able to detrench, (as per the older version) especially since now artillery cannot. Engineer build fortifications where a unit can entrench to lvl 4 will be nigh near impossible to take down.
Was curious the rational that prompted this change?

Please read the full change log.
Armor division and mech division now deentrench and so does strategic bombers.
Artillery it was removed because it really cannot deentrench. I was in the army and did artillery and it does not destroy bunkers and fortifications in mass. It destroys units that are out in the open. Hence now artillery has increased damage.
As for tac bombers same rational as artillery but more to it is that their design is to do damage to our in the open units. Them have dentrench was actually a bug and over time they end up being better than medium bombers because of it.
You guys are Lazer focused on one thing and not the overall changes. We had the same heated discussion on Action Points. We also had the same heated discussion when I removed prepared attack from all land units except for armor and mech. Yet when you play through it was just fine.
How about you try first instead of complaining on something you have no idea how it really is effecting the game with the overall large changes.

And no fortifications are not impossible to take down, I still do it just fine. I watched your games and YouTube and they are great to watch but your over-reliance on your air force for your strategy cost you allot of unnecessary MP.OldCrowBalthazor wrote: Sun Oct 29, 2023 9:09 am I strongly urge that Tac Bombers with Ground Attack Lvl 2 be able to detrench, (as per the older version) especially since now artillery cannot. Was curious the rational that prompted this change?
For example the video you posted yesterday your armor had a 0/4 attack on the infantry unit in the city after you hit it with one medium bomber. You then proceeded to use 2 more planes to try and hit it more and that was NOT necessary. You then hit it with the armor again with 2 attacks. So that attack cost you a total of 4 untis attack it (3 planes and 1 armor) with both armor attacks. You could have achieved the same results with 1 Medium bomber attack first, then the 2 armor attacks and finish it off with a single plane attack if anything was left alive (at 1 or 2 strength) which to finish it off should be a tac bomber and not a medium bomber but in this case you used 3 medium bombers because you were so focused on de-entrenching before attacking with your armor..
That would have saved you 1 plane to use someplace else.
Had you attack with the armor once you had 0/4 attack after the first medium bomber that infantry unit would have been down to either 1 or 2 strength after 2 attacks and you would have only needed 1 bomber to kill it and would have not taken any damage.
Love to watch you play but spread the love around on your attacks. Air Power is not and was not ever designed to do everything for you.
I have a few 1000s of hours playing this game in experience.
As my opponent in my last MP game that I played the Axis discovered and was shocked on how I ripped through the Russian defences on all fronts with a combined arms approach.

Re: TRP - Total Realism Project for War in Europe (1.4.2 Download)
No one is disputing your experience with this game or the quality of your work. Everyone that plays and comments on this thread is glad to be able to play it and shape its development.
What people want to say (me included) is that some changes are not to be done for the sake of changes.
I understand that in order to improve risks and changes need to be atempted. Some might work some might not. If you have an open mind to criticism and revert of modify things that don't work then everyone is satisfied.
We understand that all said and done this is your work and you can do w/e you wish with it. We either accept or we stop playing. No-one is forcing us to play. We accept that but you should also accept feedback from your fans.
As for the changes i've been against the arty nerf since we talked about it on DM. I did agree that lvl 1 arty was too powerfull in the beginning of the war and i proposed you give the research 2 lvls. Lvl 0 heavy arty does 0 de-entrench - lvl 1 arty can do 2 shots but still no de-entrench and lvl 2 does 2 shots + de-entrench. Or any combination of this.
It doesn't matter you gave mech/tank division the ability to de-entrench. With the nerf to 'prepared' attacks the battles have become a slog on the ground and players need to bring all medium bombers/strat bombers to one area in order to advance.
This is a clear advantage to the allies since they spend the first 2/3 years of the war on the defence and build tons of fortifications while the axis needs to attack constantly in order to secure ground (to have smth to trade when the allies counter). The allies will have so much more de-entrench tools (more medium bombers, more strat bombers) that for them it won't matter that arty does not de-entrench.
Not talking about the NA theatre - with arty not doing any de-trench that avenue of attack for the axis is gone. In all my games as both axis/allies i haven't managed to win( as axis) or loose (as allies).
As for the change to the subs i really don't understand. They were fine how they were. You said they were fine and were happy with it. Now you changed them 100%. Changes should come in small increments so that the issues can be resolved and achive balance.
Lastly the whole example about how arty works is irrelevant imo. A lot of military system and units work 100% differently then how they are represented in games. Games need to have a logical and balanced distribution of their units and units shouldn't really model what they do IRL.
I know you can and will ignore me but i feel i had to say this.

Any TRP players who have not yet tried out the Editor I can highly recommend it. It is very easy to get a grip of and allows you to customize your experience to fit your playstyle.
If any of the changes made to the base game, TRP or any other mod are not to your liking, there is nothing stopping you from customizing your experience.
It is also great for testing out balance suggestions you would like to see in a mod.

Re: TRP - Total Realism Project for War in Europe (1.4.2 Download)
For those crying about de-entrenchments the new combination to use on Fortifications is
Rocket Artillery fires first
Engineers then attack
Artillery is not to be used on fortifications it just does not do it anymore, it is best in Defensive positions to counter an attack and is also good to hit units that even if entrenched are in a the open field. It does some heavy damage then!

Can you post your mod in the Steam Workshop? Not sure how it works, but I have the Steam version and not sure how do set it up with your mod.

The game does not use Steam workshop. It was the first question I asked the developers. Follow the installation instructions on the first post (and I have the steam version to)

Where all the stock campaigns go, it should instead be unzipped into the following folder:

Also, there is no scenario for this mod, so it seems incomplete?
The other community pack campaigns have a scenario.
So I am still confused on this mod/campaign.

Please Follow the instructions, you are incorrect on your paths and where it goes. The community pack is a DLC. That is why you are having problems, follow the instructions please.Zovs wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2023 10:30 amLooks like your setup instructions are wrong? No it still is not right to me either by following the instructions. I think it needs to go into the mods folder instead, with the Iron Cross mods.
If it had a scenario then I think your instructions would work but I am not seeing it work that way so something is off.

Look, follow the instructions please. Matrix games themselves even posted a video on how to install on YouTube and they followed my exact instructions. This mod has been up for almost 2 years now (maybe longer don't remember) you would think others would be having issues with the instructions.Zovs wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2023 10:51 amNo it still is not right to me either by following the instructions. Reason you are not seeing it in the scenario section is because you did not follow the instructions.

Dude, you don't need to be so touchy for crying out loud!
I followed your instructions (mostly) but I screwed up and went too far into the folder structure and was confused.
Simple question, does this need a dat file?
Again, relax, its just a game, calm down, no sense in stressing yourself out over this.

I suspect it could be from the missing *.dat file?
Well I tried to install your mod and scenario but the instructions don't seem to work.

As I said Matrix games even has a video show casing the mod and how EASY the installation is because it is literally a DRAG AND DROP!
The .dat file gets created by your local system the first time it reads the scenario.
I have attached two screenshots to prove it.
If you are still having issues then I suggest you contact Matrix for support.

Re: TRP - Total Realism Project for War in Europe (1.4.2 Download)
Preface: I don't have the Steam version...
This is where it I have it (though note that I'm using an older version of TRP, it goes in the same location)
Documents/My Games/Strateic Command WWII - War In Europe/Campaigns
Be alert that you don't have a 2nd layer TRP folder with the same name under the first.
Once installed you will probably see a paging button on your scenario/campaign selection page and TRP will be on the next page.
The '.dat' file is created once you start a campaign.
