Can't open the Docs

Post by Carlosdeb »

Hi all:
I just acquired, installed and updated a copy of TOAW IV. I've gone through the manual and the FAQ posted here, played a few turns to Danzig 1939 to check the menus and systems.
I was about to start the Tutorial (a one-year Korean War scenario, lol) and I've noticed I can't open the associated document file from the ingame New Game menu. I've checked the installation files and the Doc is right there, with the same name as the Scenario. You have any idea what might be wrong? I'm posting screenshots of my scenarios directory and the ingame menu.

Can you open them from your FileExplorer you took those shots with?

Yep, same. Can't open doc from TOAW, but can go find the file in Explorer and open it. Also using desktop version of Office 365.

Try saving the word docs as pdf files. As pdfs you should be able to view them from the TOAW ingame New Game menu.

Look at the path the shortcut to the .exe uses and compare to the path to the docs.

Sure, I'm posting them:
R:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV -> Opart 4.exe
R:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Scenarios\TUTORIALS -> Tutorial.doc

Ty for the advice. I just tried, but the same thing happens (even after removing the doc and leaving just the PDF). The button is just inert

You gave me another idea, I just copied the doc from the installation path to the game folder in 'My Documents' and now the game detects it!
Now I've moved ALL the contents (docs, scenarios and jpg files) in the Scenario folder from the Installation to the Documents folder and its reading them all.

That's the method I had to use. For some reason, the default install doesn't put the documentation and scenarios in the place it expects to find it: ~\Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV
