Sicily Air War

The main focus of enemy air activity here is once again Messina with no less that 10 air operations directed at the city along with a campaign of saturation bombing on the island as well as the tip of mainland Italy, the enemy aiming to cut supply and communication as well as attack our forces directly moving into battle areas.
While this is having some effect the enemy air forces is also taking heavy losses as Axis air units and ground defences put up strong resistance.

Sicily
The battle for the island continues, 10th Panzer Division ( XIV Panzer Korps ) reaches the front lines and is immediately engaged in heavy fighting, the unit digging in along the Simeto River covering the Allied forces advancing from Enna.
The Ital 6th Army falls back to Cefalu to shorten its defence line, this also gives it and the rest of Axis forces a better defendable position as the enemy will now have to fight against our forces entrenched in rough terrain as well as number of units positioned in mountainous areas.

More units from 5th Pz Armee have arrived but no decision yet whether troops will be sent to the island, both Hube and Balcks Korps along with the Ital XVI Corps coming under pressure from repeated armoured assaults and having success repulsing the enemy advances, its hoped that the remaining units from 5th Pz Armee will be used to cover the Messina straits.

Sardinia / Corsica

With all the attention centred around the fight for Sicily, enemy operations against the Axis islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea has been almost non existent, on Sardinia the 90th Pz Gren Division has been preparing defensive positions along with the Ital Sardinia Army.

If you can, I would switch the Panzer formations on sicily for Infantry. AFVs have significant CV malus in rough or mountainous terrain, while infantry gets a bonus.
There may be boni/mali in the combat engine too, influencing losses.

Thanks for the heads up, I will attempt to redeploy the units, hopefully the Infantry can hold them back.
i had a feeling AFV's in dug in Mountains might be the best tactic but it was all I could do to stop a complete collapse.

Your mobile formations usually are your highest mrl/exp/vp formations so if you absolutely want to hold a dense terrain hex, they can be the best choice. But they do have a comparative disadvantage there, so you can earn arbitrage by trading them for Inf. Placing inf in static position battles also does not waste the Panzer mobility in trench warfare. You want your infantry to hold the static lines so your motorized formations can quickly move to the next allied landing. Nice bonus: Infantry can be more easily air rescued if cut off.

Army Group North

With The Volkhov Front all but destroyed two ArmeeKorps from 18th Armee are sent to support General Kempf's newly renamed 8th Armee, the rest of the Armee focuses on the last holdouts. As LIV ArmeeKorps destroys a cutoff Tank Corps and prepares to move forward towards the town of Cherepovets Units from the Soviet 54th Army and 2nd Guards Army launch a fresh push from the town of Belozersk, the enemy units slipping past the left flank of XXXVIII ArmeeKorps there objective seems to be forcing a breakthrough and create a corridor to the trapped Volkhov defenders.
The enemy does not seem to have the numbers in this area to launch any kind of major offensive, our forces are just to strong.

On 16th Armee's front units from The Leningrad Front launch several attacks against our fortified positions, but the enemy fails to make any gains as 16th Armee's defence line holds, here to Red Army Forces are just to thin on the ground.

The Soviet offensive in the Kalinin region continues despite the enemy redeploying some of there forces to other sectors along the the front line, our forces are pushed back across the Volga Reservoir and the lama River, Istra is retaken by 1st Guards Cavalry Corps. 60th Rifle Corps ( 4th Shock Army ) attacks towards Nogorye forcing back 8th Jaeger Div and then pushes troops into the rear area of 1st LW Field Div defending the town itself.
On the Southern sector of the Moscow front 4th Armee is forced back the enemy retaking much of the territory gained the previous week including Kolomna, the Red Army attacks at Lyubertsy but fails to push our forces out.

As feared the enemy has effectively redeployed much of its forces from around Moscow to launch a major push in the Lipetsk region, with the Bryansk and Southwestern Fronts massing 5 Tank and 2 Mech Corps with supporting Inf units for an all out assault on our overstretched lines, the undermanned XXXV ArmeeKorps ( Rendulic ) is all that stands in the way of the enemy breaking through and possibly advancing North and capturing Tula or striking towards Orel.

South of Lipetsk the battle for Voronezh intensifies as 3 Soviet Fronts attempt to breakthrough and relieve the trapped 46th Guards Rifle Corps holding out in the city, the enemy attacking our forces around the towns of Repyovka and Shatalovka in the South while in the North the II LW Field Korps faces 1st Guards Army.

At the Oskol River three enemy units remain trapped despite the enemy's attempt's to open a corridor for them to escape, The Steppe Front rushes more troops forward for another major assault on our lines, so far 2nd Hungarian Army along with 2nd Armee have held fast, the two trapped units South of Dvurechnaya attempted a breakout of there encirclement but were unable to link up with Red Army forces.

Those in the community that may be interested in who Sgt Rolf Steiner is and why he's actually in this AAR, well firstly he is part of the visual view ( one of a number of faces ) that represents the icons marching across the screen ( map ) and the new Germany this AAR represents.

Grozny is finally in our hands after a determined assault broke through the city defences, but celebrations are cut short as The North Caucasus Front masses 6 Armies ( 13th, 42nd, 43rd, 65th, 1st Shock and 5th Guards Army's ) with 6 Tank Corps, attacking on an almost 360 mile front with some enemy units reaching the city of Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea, while there main drive towards Mozdok and Naurskaya seems to be an attempt to cut 1st Pz Armee off from there supply lines and the Rom 3rd Army defending The Kuma River line.

In North Western and North Eastern France with virtually no air opposition since our fighter forces were locked in battle over the skies of Germany the enemy had almost free reign to attack targets of its choice, airbases in and around the French capital were attacked, there was also a heavy recon presence over the coastal areas, the enemy trying to gather as much intelligence on our troops dispositions.Despite Allied superiority in the air morale among the troops on the ground guarding the Atlantic coast is high.

Allied Air strikes are again directed towards interdicting our troops as well supplies coming across from the Italian mainland, Calabria and locri the two main targets for enemy bombers, Messina was also struck by heavy bombers repeatedly causing major disruptions to supply lines. With almost all air units moved off the island our ground forces have been mainly relying on Flak units to counter the enemy, the last air unit left on the island is based at Barcellona air base with 3 Me 410A-2 Night Fighters of Stab/ZG1.

This week once again our forces come under heavy attack as the Ital 6th Army falls back again, Ital XII Corps redeploys abandoning Cefalu for a better defensive position as does part of XIV Pz Korps, the hope is to shorten our lines and concentrate more forces along it while also creating a reserve to counter any breakthroughs by the enemy.

Patton's 7th Army launches a heavy attack but Italian forces hold the line, the 6th Army is just about on the verge of collapse despite there great defence, the situation is dire on the island as Hube and Balck defend grimly against large scale assaults from US 5th and 7th Army's as well Brit 8th Army, Gen Zeitzler ( Army Group C ) orders that the last of 5th Pz Armee reserves be sent to reinforce the front lines, the 162 Turkomen Div and the 242 Inf Div cross the strait and begin making there way to the front, the General has also ordered more troops to be released from 10th Armee as well as requesting OKW immediately send reinforcements from France.
