Why do you think they got the shaft...Historically they were rather unimpressive at ASW (actually, during the first part of the campaign their subs actually had a great run so maybe at that point US ASW was also less than fantastic).....To me, anytime they nail more than a sub a month is above historical performance[8D]
To quote from Evans/Peattie`s {Kaigun}

political and strategic mistakes live forever". The authors were refering to Japan but the same could be said of the US misadventure in Iraq

Thier lack of suxcess had more to with their lack of escort, for Shiping in general historicaly at least untill later in the war, if the players want to asigne more ships as escort than their results should reflect this, tweaking the game this way robs the player from being able to make better choices than his historical counter parts. US ASW is also a bit ovedone imo as well for this time frame.

Personaly I think this whole aspect of UV is a bit of a Joke... how much Tonage did S boats realy sink in the war? Not a lot...Yet we see then sinks ships left and right in UV, whears the history hear, it is ok to Neuater Japnese ASW yet it is ok to alow Uber S boats..wtf?
