Novice player, cant get Axis bombers to fly from June 1943

Post by Bonners »

I'm hoping somebody will be able to give me an answer to this. I am brand new to War in the East 2, never having played any of the previous games. I've been working through a learning campaign as the Axis, watching tutorial videos and reading the manual as I go. I have got as far as June 1943 when a strange thing happens, my bombers stop flying. This seems to have just happened all of a sudden. Now, I have been running the air war manually from day one of this campaign and havent used the AI assist at all. With the reading and watching of videos that I've been doing I thought I'd got a handle on it. I do plenty of reorganising of the aircraft and I'm presuming that somewhere along the line I've mucked up a setting. As the title states, I am a new player and this is the most likely explanation, but I cant figure out what it is I've done.

So I'm gradually going back to previous saves, which luckily I have turned on for every turn and trying to find an explanation as to what I've done. So far I've just been back to turn 104 and it works perfectly, but from my next saves it seems to muck up.

What is interesting, is that I dont have a save for the Axis for turn 105, no idea why, I havent deleted any. Also, turn 107 the initiative passes to the Soviets, could that be a factor?

I have been all the way through and deleted every single air directive and started from scratch, still nothing.

Fighters will still fly in response to Soviet attacks and recon missions still work as usual, it is Ground Support missions where no bombers every fly.

Could it be something to do with my organisation? Could it be something to do with the change of initiative? Could it be something to do with the missing save game?

Any help greatly appreciated, or where specifically in the manual I could look. I have been going all through the air war and still cant find what mistake I've made, and if it is a mistake, why I've been quite happily managing the air war for the first two years of this campaign with no issues.

There's a button on the top or by pressing X, you can disable/enable GS (Ground Support) ADs (Air Directives).
dead manual (the good looking one), p.101 wrote:In addition, during the Action (Move) phase, the current status of air ground support (GS) is noted as either on or off (Hotkey- x) as the player may wish to not use up their available ground support missions too early in a turn.

Thank you so much, that seems likely, I can see the hotkey on the hot key list. I'll check and report back.

Really appreciate the help, thought I was going mad!
