An additional problem with CPs staying at sea

Post by Courtenay »

Everyone has problems with CPs staying, or rather, not staying, at sea. I just realized (after I don't know how many years) that I have a harder time then most. The trouble is the status dots on CPs: If a ship is returning to base, the status dot is red. If it staying at sea, it is blue, if it is on sentry, it is green. At least, looking very closely at the dots, that is what I think the returning to base and sentry colors are. I am red-green color blind, and have a very hard time telling those two colors apart. Aargghh! :(

I’m on the phone so I can’t check it right now but I think the dots are in the different positions (besides the color) and there is an explanatory text in the info panel when you choose the convoy unit?

Yes, if you hover the cursor over a ship you are told whether the unit is returning to base, staying at sea, or on sentry. I have been using that, but it is not as easy as just looking at the unit and being able to tell, which I can not do.

Hey, a fellow colorblind here...

The solution I've got for this problem is to cycle through all convoy points, get the mouse hovering over the unit and in the command form you will see what this unit (in this case the convoy point) is going to do without you taking action...

Yes, that is what I do. It is annoying, though, that the colors of the status dots are useless for us.

I need to get back to my Python script development. Just thinking about this it would be relatively straight forward to build a script that would generate a report telling you which CPs are staying at sea and which are marked for return to base. In fact, one could generalize such a script to provide that for all naval units currently at sea. This would be very helpful I think just before a player ended his stay at sea phase to double check everything.

Yes, that would be very, very useful.

And I think the time it would save you playing the game would more than make up for time it would take you to write it, never mind the time the rest of save.
