HQ cards for combat

Post by havoc1371 »

Had an enemy unit surrounded with an infantry brigade and the odds were 10-1. I decided to use a card to increase the odds for an all out infantry attack (+75%). Went back and the odds were now less than 2-1! What the hell?!? I've attempted other times to use these formation cards and I've yet to see they do anything other than make the odds worse.

That's a pretty harsh swing. I also find the battle estimates change in unexpected and disturbing ways. The order the troops are in, for instance; and adding more troops can reduce the chance of success, even when they shouldn't.
Everything seems to apply correctly in the combat though.

It probably effected their readiness/ organization? I have noticed adding units or adding cards can change the organization % of a group. Or something does, it's been a bit.

I've yet to apply a combat card and see the odds improve. Now I don't even bother with them other than the one that grants training. Combat odds in this game is just a vague guess that really doesn't mean anything unless you have an overwhelming recon number. Otherwise you attack and hope for the best; hardly a winning strategy.

Too many games now are so complicated with 400 page manuals that it requires a huge devotion of time and energy to master the game well enough to not get frustrated. I own dozens of computer wargames and prefer those with intuitive design and shorter rules that allow you to get into it quickly without being overwhelmed. Unfortunately, I often pay money for a game and find out too late that the ratio of fun to time investment is way off.
