[1.25] Is Linear Tech Cost to Advance correct?

Post by Don_Kiyote »

*note* Maybe this isn't a bug, but it kind of looks like one. Here's the story:

The Applied Science Bureau has just been switched to its first applicable Linear Tech: Conventional Gun Optimization.

This is great news! Model Design is currently working on the Regime's first Light Tank, a high-velocity gun toting tank killer, and I'm thinking, "now its going to be even better".

But the 'discovery' of the Conventional Gun Optimization tech came through Foreign Affairs, via a research agreement. My regime hasn't unlocked the tech tier for any Applied Science discoveries yet. We're just working on Combat Armour, our second tier 2 tech (see pic 1).
tech is off the available tiers, but should still be advanceable, right?

Having any 'Gun Optimization' bonus on the first model version would be a stroke of luck, especially if it added any Armour Piercing for those 100mm AI tanks. All the Tank Brigades of the future would benefit. But something is wrong, or is it? One turn later and Conventional Guns still reads '0', despite having some 16BP before bonuses put in to it (see pic 2).
Is this just waiting for 50 research points to advance?

Disaster!

Or is just not enough to show, yet. Looking closer, I can see the note that 50BP are required for 1% progress. It also says something about 'research points' which doesn't look right. It says "With 16 BP, we have gained 0 research points". Maybe that should read "We have gained 'x' research points and progressed 0%"

Are Linear Techs much more expensive than I remember? Difficulty levels are maxed out, game speed is in the middle (pretty slow). But I recall the earliest levels of linear techs jumping forward at first, in other games with the same settings. Is my regime just that bad at research?

-----

Either way, I would like to know finally how to read these Science reports.

I figured BP assigned would be converted to 'research points' on a 1-1 basis, then have external bonuses added as additional 'research points', and then have Director bonuses applied as a percentage increase, which would now be called something else, like 'actual research points and then that these 'ARPs' would be counted against the cost of advancing the applicable tech. How is that?

If so, I should have...
{16bp + 12 bonus_rp = 28 rp} and
{28 rp + 70% Director bonus = 48 ARP}
in reserve, saved up and ready to applied next turn. Is that right?

-----

Further about techs and how they apply, I keep wanting binary and linear techs finished on the same turn as a model design completes, to apply fully to that model, please. After chasing these bonuses so hard, it would be nice to have the benefit of a split decision.

Thats all for now

Except a bonus bug report: wonky and exploitable MTH offer

Hi,

Yes it is possible by sharing tech to get fields in groups you have not unlocked yet. However you must have the pre-req Tech if any.

The wording is misleading in the log. At best. I am changing it in the upcoming beta.
"research bonuses were responsible for 12 research points" should be read as "research bonuses gave 12 extra BP"
so your total BP was 28 BP and needed was 50 BP... you missed the roll

Note that the linear costs have been reworked and the days of super cheap initial improvement costs are over.

Thanks, you have the right idea: The wording is the problem.

I did see the tech start to crawl forward in the few more turns of this game I played. Because some things had changed, and the tech was off-to-the-side, I panicked.

Those little captions can be surprisingly tricky to write clearly.

Bureaucratic Points (BP) are funneled in to a specific office, then added to with 'points' bonuses (eg. hex perks), and then *that* total is multiplied in proportion to the leader's ability that turn.
