Generic Data, Scenario Data, OB 2.0

Post by DarkHorse2 »

Guys,

The current state of Generic Data, Scenario Data looks like a mess.

IMO, the things that belong in "Generic Data" are those that are common across numerous scenarios, like:
* Devices;
* Ground Elements;
* TOE(OBs);
* Aircraft;
* Leaders;
* Nat/Weather;

The things that should be in "Scenario Data" are unique to the scenario, such as:
* Units;
* Air Groups;

Then some things that, sadly, have to be in both:
* Locations; (this includes cities, factories, airbases and depots)

Currently, you have all of the following in "Generic Data". Why :?: :?:

If you notice, a bunch of the units are misconfigured anyways.... and would have to be fixed in the specific Scenario.

Honestly, I wouldn't have any of the units in "Generic Data" and would push that all to the specific Scenarios.

I only mention OB 2.0 in the title because with the sweeping changes recently made, this may have been a missed opportunity to clean up some of the "Generic Data" mess.

Never noticed this before, but it appears I was pretty close to my assertions regarding "Generic" vs "Non Generic" data.

So, then why does WiTE2 have all of this unit garbola in "Generic Data" then?

FYI,

I made a backup of generic data and cleared all the unit data - which was not easy, sadly, as the editor did not facilitate this.

There is a trick that may help. Select unit slot 0, and then insert 16300 blank units, effectively pushing out the existing units as the cutoff is around 16350 ish.

There are a couple left at the bottom you will have to manually clear.

Be prepared for this to take about 15-30 mins though. :(

For anybody wanting the CSV of cleared units for import, I have attached it.

As far as I can tell so far, none of that unit "Generic Data" is used or needed.
