Fractions in ground support

Post by Courtenay »

I just had a three point bomber add ground support to an attack in the snow. MWiF said "2 was added to the attacker's combat factors." Is this correct? Bu my reading of the Fraction rules (2.6) only 1.5 should have been added; the rounding should not be done until one actually calculates an odds ratio. Here is the rule for when one rounds:
Round off a number immediately before:
  • Calculating an odds ratio; or
  • Looking the number up in a table; or
  • Comparing it to a dice roll or to a fixed value; or
  • Spending oil (see 13.5.1) or build points
This makes a difference if there are other fractions in the attack. If, say there were 10.5 ground combat factors in the attack, the final combat value should be 12, not 12.5 which rounds to 13.

If this is an error, I will make a bug report.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

It is an error. As you say, it is 1.5. Rounding comes later.

However, I have seen those errors before in the game and didnt happen when we loaded it again and run it. Maybe it can not be reproduced to check, and on the other side that would mean maybe the game will get it right in your game in that second try.

I would not be surprised if the program is just informing about the two points but then actually use the fraction (1,5) in the combat information, and on the odds calculation.

I am pretty sure that NWIF does the actual rounding at the end.

I've never tested this. Than the question is: has anyone an example available where this matters for the final odds calculation?

I am sure I have had this calculated correctly several times. I will try to remember to post an example the next time I see it.
