Auto save annoyance
Would it be possible to change the frequency of the game disruption by the auto save? Every couple of minutes is annoying as hell and often interrupts me in mid click. I don't thing saving in every 10 minutes is unreasonable and still serves the purpose of dissuading cheaters. I personally try to build a pool of players known to me and that I respect and do not worry about them cheating to win. They are the only ones I play. I never use the player finder or post open invitations anymore.
It's a sad fact that some people will cheat to win and think the false victory makes them better than they are, when in actually, they are only better cheaters.

Do strategy wargames even matter.
Once the older crowd dies off, this industry is done.
This is a hobby site, like an knitting club where nobody interacts.
Sure, there's a couple hits now & then.
How can developers make a living off this.
Matrix Forum, no comment.
Far as the auto save, I have no comment.
Actually, I did, beforehand.
But now, nah.

Re: Auto save annoyance
It does seem to save a lot more in WaW than the WW1 game, I timed it last night and it was approx. every 5 minutes.
Which is a bit over the top and annoying at times. I can understand every 5 minutes at the beginning of the game, but from 42 onwards its distracting. But I suppose there is no way for Hubert and Bill to set it for longer periods as the game progresses.
So it is what it is

Long as it gets saved. That's all that matters.

I'll never play the matrix PBEM again. Just save the turn and send by email, don't care about reloads, know your opponent and remember the goal is not winning, its the journey to get there that matters.

It's actually random, which is why comparisons may obtain differing results, but the intention being to prevent "gamey players" knowing exactly when it will save, and therefore carrying out any cheating type actions immediately before it does.taffjones wrote: Sat Dec 23, 2023 11:07 am It does seem to save a lot more in WaW than the WW1 game, I timed it last night and it was approx. every 5 minutes.

Hi Bill
I actually timed it and for me it is auto saving every 5 minutes, this is happening in all off my games I am playing which is 6 games at the moment,
I thought it best to mention it as I noticed in the Technical support thread people are saying the same every 5 minutes for then as well.

Re: Auto save annoyance
I've got no problem with the autosave, in fact I am very happy with it. No longer do I feel like I need to constant save myself so I do not lose progress due to internet connection issues, etc...and it's a great anti cheat mechanism. Kudos to the devs for implementing it.

Re: Auto save annoyance
How do we get a change in the packaging? I would like it added as a setting option. If that cannot be done then it backs up when you change nationality's. Example I am moving US forced when click on a USSR unit then it backs up. I have very slow internet and it can take over a minuet to back up.
The packaging every 5-6 units moved is annoying and disrupts the flow of the game. I understand it stops cheating but I play with the same guys and if they are cheating they are not doing good job of it because we are evenly matched.
We may be a dying breed but that does not mean I do not want my remining day days to be enjoyable..
What do you guys think? Any ideas?

Re: Auto save annoyance
The devs have said the frequency of the packaging/save function in PBEM matches is going to get revised...to less times per turn, in a future patch.
I don't know if an 'option' to oped out of this feature is doable, as it's a Slitherine server and not a Fury Software implementation. Perhaps they (together) are working on that though.
I for one am happy with this feature. I also don't play with random folks, just Matrix forumites, who are in my opinion honorable. So, I'm not worried about cheating, though it was a problem.
However, though I have killer internet, where I live is prone to inclement weather a lot, especially winter. My Internet runs on cable (not optic up here in the mountains) that can get rattle canned by high winds...causing a brief burb with the connection. So this package/save function has been a goddess-send. No more restarting a turn after pulling an hour long complex series of moves and battles just to get kicked 5 minutes before the turn is sent out.

I like the autosave. Not sure why anyone wouldn't.
