Tweaked 1/13/24: Bab al-Mandab Strait, Yemen 2024

Post by BeirutDude »

France vs. Houthis in Yemen. Created this for myself and thought I'd share since its currently topical. The Houthi OOB is really totally supposition on my part (a wild @$$ guess to be honest with a little challenge sprinkled in). I wanted to use the French as, IMHO, they are the major power, other then the U.S., who might intervene in Yemen and what fun is lobbing 108 /154 USN TLAMs into the county and sailing away?

Hope you enjoy and as always welcome to constructive criticism for improvement.

Edit: Made some Tweaks...
1. Tweaked Houthi OOB, especially the SSMs
2. Tweaked the mission to remove mention of "Dawn," and now the French attack at will.
3. Tweaked SOME of the damage/destroyed VPs for hitting the Houthis. I most cases I left them to destroyed units, but some you will get VPs for cumulative damage.

Hi, thanks for the scenario.

Just in case it is useful, in this link there is a lot of their stuff displayed, including the single F5 :)

TY, I think the scenario might have a better Houthi OOB than I thought. I was wondering if I Had given them too much! :D

Al,

Thank you for the scenario. I am just finishing it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

One thing that I do believe that you might want to include is a message when DAWN occurs. You message states that hostilities are to begin at dawn. I waited for that time, and when it came I expected a message informing me that I was now clear to conduct the attack. I seriously doubt that many of the other gamers waited, so it probably isn't necessary for them. But, for those that do wait, it would be a little reassuring to know that an official announcement about the attack can now occur. It's no big deal in any case.

That Khordad-3 bat is a pretty tough nut to crack. I also like the little trap that you have installed. (I knew that there would be one.) I didn't fall for it. <lol>

Al,

I have a suggestion. This actually applies to every scenario, so I suppose that it is more of a pet peeve.

Your scenario (as do many others) award points for COMPLETELY destroying a unit. And, unless it is completely destroyed, you get no points. Damaging some 99.9 percent means no points. You have to reach 100 percent. I have always believed that units should qualify as being "eligible for points" (i.e. destroyed) when it reaches a certain threshold (80 percent, 90 percent?). Certainly, commanders wouldn't risk assets to try to destroy the last 1 percent of a unit just to achieve a victory point.

I believe that you should adjust the thresholds from DESTROYED to DAMAGED to a certain percentage in order to be more realistic.

Again, this is just my pet peeve, and it has nothing (little) to do with your scenario.

Doug, I thought of that when I was putting it together and yeah I'll do it when I get a bit of time. I remember you suggesting this before.

Doug, made some of those tweaks, not every unit though.

Everyone else thanks for your comments!
