GRUMP! Unseasonable climate change weather has melted almost all our snow and now kids can see all those 'doggie laid" mines!
GRUMP! And our white Christmas will be a brown one for the first time in my life!
GRUMP! And our lakes and rivers have not frozen enough for ice sports or the miles of skating paths!
GRUMP! And my bank account has been cleared by Christmas shopping! Do you know how much a bottle of Japanese (Scotch style) Whiskey costs!?

And just because - GRUMP! - have a very grumpy holiday season! That is all.

I read where someone jumped off that bridge, it was only 200 feet down, about 60 or so meters.

I read where someone got stuck in the woods and did not stay with his vehicle. He had memory issues. He went into a water filled open pit mine. He surfaced the next spring. Searchers did find his truck so if he would have stayed with it, he would have been safe.

In Sweden a while back there was a extreme blizzard. A man was driving in the thick of it, but the blowing snow reduced the visibility to almost zero so he decided to park at the side of the road. Knowing that it was expected to snow for quite awhile he turned off the engine and hunkered down. He eventually fell asleep. Sometime later he was awaken by something shaking his car violently and a thundering noise. And it was completely dark. After a while he realized that it was the snowplow that had passed without noticing him. The car was completely buried in snow. Hard packed snow. Really hard, icelike. Impossible to get out of the car.

Fortunately the man had cell phone coverage. But this was before the time when GPS location was common so there was no way to know where he was located exactly .

This story was told by a fireman in the team that found him. He said that there was no way at all to see that a car was buried under that snowwall. They searched, and found him, the same way that they search for people caught in a avalanche.

For anyone who drives in weather like that (I will not write anything about their intelligence or common sense, or the lack of those things) then they should have a long and sturdy pole with a large red/orange flag, possibly with something that glows in the dark as well, that they can put outside of their vehicle and secure it.

I have read where a road grader (not that plow truck, but one that levels gravel roads) with a snow plow wing to go along the side of a road, removed the top of a car parked along a street in town. The car was covered in snow. That man was lucky that the truck did not plow his car.

That is a good advice, about the pole thingie. Thank you.

And yes, driving in such weather is not the wisest thing to do. Although, sometimes it can not be helped. So staying at the side of the road until it clears up seems the second most smart thing to do. Whether one has a pole, or not. I suppose I expect more from the snow clearing people than I should.

Sand.
Water.
Food.
Warm clothes.
Flashlight.
Batteries for flashlight.
Extra lightbulbs thingies if the headlights go out.
A couple of warning triangles.
Car battery.
Tools to exchange car battery, or other minor repairs that might be needed.
Cutting tool of some sort to cut safety belt if need be. (put in a place where it can not be dislocated in a crash and within reach from the driver, while at the same time be a legal tool in all countries that you are expected to drive in)

I prefer if the car I am driving is legal where I drive it. And that includes the cargo. I have a suspicion that the flamethrower might not be completely legal in some counties I might be driving in.
